Judge Home Run Pursuit Continues in Toronto
Monday night in Toronto could be a magical one on multiple fronts for the New York Yankees. A win in the three-game series opener at the Toronto Blue Jays gives them their first American League East crown since 2019. And slugger Aaron Judge carries to Canada his quest to tie Roger Maris’s AL and team home run record.

Yankees Carry Seven-Game Win Streak to Canada
Although Judge’s run toward 61 has stalled out, his team has not. New York Yankees have won seven straight after Sunday’s rain-shortened 2-0 victory to complete a four-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox.
The judge was due up next for the Yankees when the rain came, which prompted a nearly two-hour wait following the sixth inning before the game was called final.
“I’d like to hit; I think anybody would want more at-bats,” Judge said. “But you can ask anybody in that room, we’re excited we came away with a narrow victory, and one win closer to clinching the division.”
The judge has 10 games remaining and, once the division is sewn up, will probably want to sit out a game or two before the playoffs start. That won’t happen as long as the home run mark remains in play. Monday’s matchup with Kevin Gausman provides an excellent opportunity for the big outfielder, who is 8-for-22 with three homers against the Blue Jays right-hander.
Luis Severino starts Monday for the Yankees in his second outing since returning from the IL. He blanked Toronto over five innings early in the season before getting knocked around a bit in two subsequent rematches, giving up eight runs, eight hits and six walks in 9⅔ innings.
Jays Inching Toward Top Wild Card Spot
Toronto Blue Jays split four games with the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend to maintain a two-game lead in the race for the first of three wild card positions in the AL, which would grant the Jays home games throughout the first round.
George Springer’s two home runs were the catalyst for a 7-1 win Sunday. A man with plenty of October experience, he knows how critical gaining home-field advantage can be.
“It’s everything,” Springer said. “To be in front of your own fans, your own home, your bed. It’s a comfort factor. You get to hit last. That’s huge.”
Gausman has handled the Yankees just fine in 2022, allowing two runs and striking out 16 in 12⅔ total innings over two starts. However, both took place in Yankee Stadium and the veteran hasn’t been quite as sharp at home, where he has a 5.40 ERA over his last 11 starts.
Consider that trend, and his lack of success against Judge, when making any MLB picks at the sportsbook.
Yankees vs Blue Jays Head-to-Head
New York leads the season series 9-7, meaning it needs to win one of the three games in Toronto to clinch a season series win for the first time since 2019. The Yankees have won four of six at Rogers Centre this year.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Prediction
Both teams are motivated to finalize their postseason positions. The Yankees are much closer, however, and have been putting their foot on the gas to get to the point where they can rest some guys. It’ll be hard to place an MLB bet against them until they wrap up the division, which we think comes Monday night.
Judge should be able to relax more on the road and put up some quality at-bats that will set the stage for an AL East-clinching win.
