Judge and Goldschmidt in Battle of Prospective MVPs
The prohibitive favorites for the Most Valuable Player award in both the American and National leagues will be on the same field Saturday when the New York Yankees face the St. Louis Cardinals in interleague play. The Yankees’ Aaron Judge, who is -450 to win the AL MVP, and the Cardinals’ Paul Goldschmidt, who is -150 to win the NL MVP, will try to outdo each other at the plate during the three-game series. Judge won the first head-to-head battle Friday with two hits and two runs scored but popped out with the tying run on first base in the ninth inning, allowing Goldschmidt and the Cardinals to win 4-3 for their fifth victory in a row.

German and Former Yankee Montgomery Duel
Domingo German has been slowly rounding back into form and will look to put it all together Saturday in his fourth start. The 30-year-old, who missed more than three months due to right shoulder impingement, has gotten steadily better, culminating with a win in his last start against the Seattle Mariners. The overall body of work for the righthander doesn’t paint a pretty picture – 12.2 innings, 17 hits, nine earned runs, six walks, and four home runs allowed, but there was bound to be some rust to start.
German and the Yankees will face a pitcher who up until last week was a member of their team. Jordan Montgomery, who spent six years in New York, was 3-3 with a 3.69 ERA prior to being traded. The lefthander will make his first start against a team he was 22-20 for in his career.
Nootbaar Making Name for himself
Lars Nootbaar isn’t a household name amongst baseball fans, but he is trying to change that in his second year in the majors. The 24-year-old outfielder has already surpassed most of the offensive numbers from his rookie season but it has taken a bit longer than expected. The California native has been optioned and recalled from the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds three times this season, the last on July 15. He has enjoyed a breakthrough during the second half of July, finishing the month with a .317 average, and it has carried over into August. Nootbaar opened the month with his second career three-hit game and is 4 for 11 in four games.
Yankees vs Cardinals Head-to-Head
The Yankees saw their five-game win streak against the Cardinals come to an end, but they have still taken six of the last eight and 10 of the last 15 games against them.

Yankees vs Cardinals Prediction
The Yankees haven’t been a good MLB bet against the run line as they have gone 10-18 in July. Those betting online on the over on Yankees’ games have fared much better thanks to a 19-5-1 mark in their last 25 games and win in five of their last seven games with one push.
The Cardinals have been just the opposite with wins in six of their last eight games against the MLB lines spread. In their last 10 games, eight have finished under the total and three over.
It’s anyone’s guess what German and Montgomery will bring given the unique circumstances surrounding the matchup. The game going over eight runs seems the likeliest result.
