Picks, Prediction for Yankees vs Dodgers on Saturday, June 3

The Los Angeles Dodgers aim to defy the MLB odds and get off to a similar start as the series opener when they play host to the New York Yankees for an interleague matchup Saturday night.

The Dodgers put up six runs in the first inning and went on to earn an 8-4 triumph on Friday, but it will be a much tougher task in the middle of the three-game set as they face Yankees ace Gerrit Cole (6-0). Cole is 22-7 with a 2.97 ERA in 38 interleague starts.

Picks, Prediction for Yankees vs Dodgers on Saturday, June 3

Mookie Betts was 4-for-4 in the series opener, including a leadoff homer in the first inning and another solo blast in the sixth, as the Dodgers improved to 6-6 over their last 12 contests.

New York lost its second in a row Friday after starting its four-game Western trip with a pair of blowout wins at Seattle. Aaron Judge was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the series opener and is 0-for-7 in his last two after belting four of his 18 homers in the previous three contests.

Los Angeles is co-favorite to win the World Series in Las Vegas MLB odds at +600 and the Yankees are fifth (+1100).

Smashing Returns For Two

Josh Donaldson belted two homers after missing almost two months and Giancarlo Stanton launched a solo blast in his first game since April 15 as both returned from the disabled list Friday for the Yankees.

New York only managed two singles aside from the three homers, one by second baseman Gleyber Torres as he extended his hitting streak to 12 games (17-for-52).

The Yankees are 22nd in the majors in batting average (.228), but 10th in total runs scored.

Freeman’s Streak Is Over

While the Dodgers were pounding out 13 hits, red-hot first baseman Freddie Freeman was 0-for-5 on Friday.

Freeman had hit safely in 20 straight contests, going 37-for-81 with five homers and 21 RBIs, and is batting a National League-leading .339 overall.

Los Angeles is third in the majors in total runs scored, leads the NL in homers with 100 and the over is 34-23-1 at the sportsbook this season.

Starting Pitchers

Gerrit Cole (6-0, 2.93 ERA) vs Michael Grove (0-1, 8.44 ERA)

Cole was 5-0 with a 1.35 ERA in his first seven starts, but has been much more hittable in the past five. The 32-year-old right-hander yielded 17 earned runs across 27 innings in his last five trips to the mound, winning last time out against San Diego despite allowing the Padres to score six times in six frames.

Grove returns from the disabled list (groin) to make his first major league start since April 20. The 26-year-old West Virginia product pitched 5⅔ scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and no walks with Triple-A Oklahoma City on May 27. Grove has gone more than four innings in just one of his four MLB starts in 2023.

Yankees vs Dodgers Head-to Head

The teams split six games in their previous two interleague series as the Dodgers won twice in New York in 2016 while the Yankees took two of three at Los Angeles in 2019.

The under was 7-2 in nine meetings, according to MLB lines, until last night’s 12-run total – easily over 7 ½.

Cole is 3-2 with a 5.53 ERA in seven career starts against the Dodgers while Betts (7-for-14) and Freeman (6-for-17, one homer) have hit well against him.

Yankees vs Dodgers Betting Lines

Over/Under Pick

Cole has not been as good of late and he is facing one of the best offenses in the majors, while Grove is just coming off the disabled list. But the pick here is that they will keep the runs down just enough.

Pick: Under 8 ½ (-105)

Moneyline Pick

The logical pick is to go with Cole over Grove, who is 1-1 with a 5.96 ERA in 11 major league appearances (10 starts). But if you are online gambling, it might not be a bad bet to go with the Dodgers. Grove was outstanding in his two rehab outings and Los Angeles is 6-0 in his six career home starts.

Pick: Dodgers (-101)

Spread Pick

If you want to go all in on the Dodgers offense and Grove, taking the 1½ runs for a home dog is always nice. The logical pick is to go with the Yankees if you are betting MLB spreads, and the payoff wouldn’t be bad.

Pick: Yankees – 1 ½ (+125)
