The visiting New York Yankees hit three home runs on Tuesday and upped the total of 12 extra-base hits to take the first two games in the series in Seattle. The Yankees cut first-place Tampa Bay’s lead in the American League East to five games. The MLB picks favor the Seattle Mariners to salvage the final game in the series.
New York is 9-3 over the last 12 games and have scored 10 runs in each of the last three games. While they are third in the American League, the Yankees have won four in a row. Seattle is now in fourth place in the American League West.
Seventeen of the 26 runs in the series have come courtesy of extra-base hits. Keep that in mind when it comes time to make MLB predictions.
The Yankees lead the AL with 53 home runs in May, with their .475 slugging percentage ranking second. Seattle is fifth in the majors with 248 strikeouts and eighth with a 3.83 ERA in May.
When looking at MLB news, Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is questionable after missing the series opener with a wrist injury. There are some familiar names in the lineup for the Yankees, led by reigning American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge. However, in Game 2 of the series, rookie Anthony Volpe and offseason acquisitions Willie Calhoun and Jake Bauers came through.
Volpe, who didn’t have an extra-base hit in each of his last six games, hit a three-run home run, Bauers drove in a run and Calhoun had a pair of hits and scored twice in a 10-2 win as the Yankees took the first two games of the series.
Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, in his second season with the Yankees, is 6-for-10 with six RBIs in the series.

No Relief In Sight
With the struggles of young starting pitchers Bryce Miller and Logan Gilbert in the first two games of the series, the Mariners could have used a lift from their bullpen. That didn’t happen as Seattle’s relievers allowed nine hits and four runs in 11⅓ innings.
Seattle ranks fifth in the majors with a 3.24 ERA from its bullpen so the events of the last two games are not typical for the Mariners.
One of the bright spots in the bullpen continues to be Trevor Gott, who struck out two of the three batters he faced while throwing a scoreless inning in Tuesday’s loss. He has not allowed a run in his last five appearances.

Clarke Schmidt (2-5, 5.58 ERA) vs George Kirby (5-4, 3.43)
Schmidt has surrendered four runs over 10 innings in his last two starts. He has pitched past the fifth innings just once in his last six starts. This will be his first appearance against the Mariners.
Kirby was lit up for nine hits and seven runs with four home runs allowed in 4⅔ innings in his last start, which is something to keep in mind for live betting options. After surrendering just one run in 13 ⅔ innings in back-to-back starts, he has a 7.71 ERA in his last two outings.
None of his 35 career starts have come against the Yankees.
