Let’s check the latest MLB news, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Yankees vs Pirates. We’ve plenty of MLB picks & predictions.

Yankees Dominant

The New York Yankees are always one of the most popular offseason MLB picks to reach the World Series, typically because of their enormous payroll, rich history and broad fan base. However, while past iterations of the team may have been overhyped, this team has everything a fan could want:  explosive offensive talent, lights-out pitching and the “clutch gene.”

New York is 58-23 and will be even more motivated after dropping a game to an inferior opponent.

Aaron Judge leads the team in batting average, home runs and RBIs, and is firmly in the mix for American League MVP.

Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo have served as Judge’s wingmen, each hitting at least 20 home runs. DJ Le Mahieu and Gleyber Torres have been the all-important players, rounding out a lineup that is not as top-heavy as it has been in the past.

Luis Severino (4-3, 3.35 ERA) will get the start for the Yankees after giving up just two earned runs in six innings against the Houston Astros in his last outing.

Pirates: Perplexing Exploits

Despite being just 33-47, the Pittsburgh Pirates have performed well against the top teams in the league, most recently seen in Tuesday’s 5-2 win over New York.

This team is destined for devastation at the trade deadline, assuming there are contenders that like any of the team’s top performers. The Pirates are still years away from seriously competing for the postseason; however, that has not stopped them from being a thorn in the side of several opponents.

Jack Suwinski was the hero on Tuesday, recording two hits, two runs and two RBIs in four at-bats. Bryan Reynolds has been the de facto leader, pacing the team in batting average, home runs, RBIs, and on-base percentage, albeit with marks that would not typically lead other clubs.

Ke’Bryan Hayes has been next in the list of importance, and the team could do with all three having monster days on Wednesday to close out their series with New York positively.

Mitch Keller (2-5, 5.14 ERA will get the start for the home underdogs after giving up five earned runs in four innings against the Washington Nationals last time out.

Yankees vs Pirates Head-to-Head

Tuesday’s game was the only time that the Pirates and Yankees have met in 2022; prior to that, their most recent matchup was in 2017, when Pittsburgh took two of three.
