Yankees Look Locked In
The story of this series has been the New York Yankees starting pitching. In both games, the Yankees starters have gone eight innings.
The Tampa Bay Rays couldn’t do much in their last game to stop Jameson Taillon from pitching a shutout. However, the Rays’ bullpen tried to keep them in the game for a comeback.
Yankees Starting Pitchers Are Thriving
With the New York Yankees’ starters pitching going eight innings and pitching great against the Tampa Bay Rays, it looks like starting pitching is key for the Yankees’ winning games. Saturday’s starter, Gerrit Cole (4-1 3.31 ERA), struggled in his last start.
He went eight innings but allowed seven hits and five runs. He’ll have to tighten up if he wants the win against a Rays’ offense disparate for scoring runs. However, if he doesn’t, the Yankees bullpen is ready to save the team.
Newcomer Matt Carpenter helped the Yankees go up 2-0 in the fourth inning with a solo home run, which was his only hit of the game. Aaron Judge, who’s been a hitting machine for the Yankees, went 0-4..
Rays Have No Answers
While game 1 saw the Rays score two runs in the ninth inning, Game 2 saw them get shut out. There has been little offense from the Rays outside of one dependable player.
That one player is Manuel Margot, who is on a 14-game hitting streak dating back to May 1. He picked up where he left off with his bat when he returned to action after missing some games because of a hamstring injury. While he is dependable, the Rays need the rest of their lineup to set up against the best team in baseball.
Harold Ramirez might be one player that can help Margot and the Rays today. He normally performs well at the plate, as seen by his solid .287 batting average for the season.
Yankees vs Rays Head-to-Head
The New York Yankees come into this game as 1.5-run favorites. (in the previous two seasons, the Tampa Bay Rays won the season series. They won 11 games against the Yankees back in 2020 and 2021.

Yankees vs Rays Prediction
The Las Vegas odds have gone back and forth through this series. The New York Yankees are the favorites in this third game of the series. It could be a close game if the Yankees starter lets the Tampa Bay Rays get to him early.
However, the Rays’ offense hasn’t shown they have any answers to the Yankees’ starting pitching. They struggle to mount a comeback, and the Yankees are taking advantage of this.
When looking at the betting side of this game, the Rays are 2-2 as home underdogs against the spread. The Yankees are 10-9 ATS as road favorites in 2022. They are also slightly above .500 ATS overall for 2022 with a 24-22 record.
With the Yankees on a fiery streak again, gamblers betting online and making MLB picks and parlays should take the Yankees and give the Rays the 1.5 runs.
