Yankees at 50 and Counting
The New York Yankees have been on fire all season long, reaching their 50th win of the season on Monday night. They have now won 17 out of their last 19 games – including four of them against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Nobody has been able to stop them lately – especially the Rays. Tampa Bay has lost eight out of its last 10 games coming into Tuesday’s matchup against visiting New York and are really struggling to get back on track.
Yankees: Stellar Pitching
The New York Yankees will be starting Nestor Cortes and he’s been fantastic this season. He’s got the 16th-best record in the league for a pitcher at 6-2 and is fourth in ERA at 1.94.
Just in case you weren’t convinced of his dominance already, he’s tied for 26th in strikeouts and seventh in WHIP.
Simply put, Cortes has been consistently great for the Yankees and they’re hoping for another game like his previous ones.
The only flaws that Cortes has shown have come away from home, though. He’s 3-2 on the road with a 2.36 ERA, which are still incredibly strong numbers.
They are just a little worse than the 3-0 record and 1.53 ERA at home. Opponents bat .225 against him when he’s away compared to .154 when he’s at home.
If you’re making your MLB picks, note that this might give the Rays an edge here.
Rays: Offense Laboring
Pitching has been great for the Tampa Bay Rays. They are actually the fourth-best team in the league when it comes to ERA at 3.15.
However, their batting isn’t following that trend at all. They are 24th in the league in batting average and the home runs just aren’t coming around much. They’ve smashed 60 homers, which is good enough for 23rd, so they’re not hitting for average or for power.
Overall, the Rays has lost six of their last seven games and scored a total of seven runs in the losses. That’s simply not good enough given the opponent they’re facing.
Yankees vs Rays Head-to-Head
These squads have met up eight times this season with the Yankees winning six of those matchups. They’re coming off a 4-2 win over the Rays on Monday night.

Yankees vs Rays Prediction
Reliever Jalen Beeks is making his 18th appearance and third start for Tampa Bay. New York has beaten the Rays four times in a row coming into this matchup and Cortes has proven himself to be one of the league’s premier pitchers.
Couple that with the Rays’ inability to consistently hit the ball and their overall slump, and it makes the decision a bit easier. Stick with the red-hot Yankees. They should win this upcoming game against Tampa Bay.
