Yankees Need to Rebound After Rough Weekend

The Yankees hoped for a strong weekend in Baltimore to get back on track against a struggling opponent, but that was not the case. Instead, the Yankees dropped two of three to the Orioles and finished the weekend with a .500 record on the season.

The pitchers have been holding up their end for the most part, which is a good sign for the Yankees, with their pitching being the biggest question mark coming into the season. It is the struggling offense and the big bats that seem to still be coming out of their winter thaw.

They aren’t scoring the runs they needed to put up wins. Luckily for them, they are headed to Detroit, where the Tigers have also struggled. With Gerrit Cole on the mound for his third start, the Yankees could use a stellar start from their ace to allow the offense to jump ahead early.

Still Not The Tigers Year

With a solid offseason and great young talent coming through the system, the Detroit Tigers hoped that this would be the year they could compete for an AL Central title, or at least compete better than they have the past few years, however, it appears that those hopes are quickly vanishing.

After some injuries to key pitchers like Casey Mize and now key addition Javy Baez on the 10 day IR, the Tigers are looking like it might be another year to work on the farm system and continue internal development, which they seem to do a great job of and hope that it will pan out.

Their offense is stuck in neutral, and their pitching has shown signs of life, but it’s hard to muster wins with no run support. The hungry Yankees will be looking to get their bats going against a depleted pitching staff with little worry that the Tigers’ offense will do much damage. Lopsided scores could be a possibility in this match-up.

Yankees vs Tigers Head-to-Head

In six games against one another in 2021, the Yankees and Tigers split the season series 3-3, with the home teams winning all the games in their respective parks.

Gerrit Cole was 1-0 in two starts against the Tigers in 2021, giving up only one run in 12 innings of work, scattering 10 hits, one walk, and 17 strikeouts. This could be the exact team that Cole needs to face to get on track in 2022. Check those MLB lines for high strikeouts from Cole.

Yankees vs Tigers Betting Lines

Yankees vs Tigers Prediction

As the Yankees have been all season and will continue to do so early on, they are the favorite in this matchup with the Tigers. And a strong favorite at -230. This is the game where the Yankees bats will come alive and put up some big runs while Gerrit Cole spins a great game to get back on track. Sorry Tigers, this isn’t going to be your night.

With that being said, a good sports betting take would be the Yankees covering the run line at -1 ½ -130. There is a good chance this will be a one-sided game in the Yankees’ favor coming off a bad showing and a day off to get the kinks worked out.

When you bet online, take the run line for the Yankees to cover -1 ½ -130 in Tuesday’s series opener.

Pick: New York Yankees -1 ½ -130
