Cole looks to Lead New York to Another Series Win on Road
Streak Ends for Yankees
In the “that’s why they play the game” department, who would have guessed that the Minnesota Twins would put up multiple runs in four straight innings and knock out American League ERA leader Nestor Cortes in the fifth inning of Wednesday night’s win over the New York Yankees.
A closer look would have revealed that Minnesota has flexed its muscles in alternating games recently. In the previous four games, the Twins scored nine runs followed by three, then put up eight runs and were held to four.

Chris Archer, one of the few healthy starting pitchers for Minnesota, allowed one run in five innings to pick up his first win of the season. Now the hope for Minnesota fans is that Dylan Bundy can shake off consecutive tough outings in Thursday’s series finale.
According to the MLB playoff odds, the Yankees (+600) are second in the odds to win the World Series. The Twins come in at +2500.
Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for the Yankees vs Twins. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.
Cole in Top Form for Yankees
Gerrit Cole has looked every bit the part of a Cy Young Award candidate in his last two starts. In 13 innings Cole has allowed four hits and one run with 19 strikeouts to drop his ERA from 3.31 to 2.78.
Cole is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in three starts following a loss by the New York Yankees. He does have 24 strikeouts in 16 innings in those games.
The bullpen could use a solid outing by Cole after five relievers have combined to throw 8.2 innings in the first two games of the series.
The Yankees have dropped four of the last seven road games.
New York still has the second-best team ERA among American League teams in the month of June and is 6-1 over the last seven games.
The Yankees are 7-1-2 against MLB betting lines total in their last 10 games.
Urshela leading Twins vs Former Team
Gio Urshela seems to be enjoying his at-bats against his former team.
Urshela is 4-for-8 with two runs scored in the first two games of the series. He has hits in all six games he has played in June to increase his batting average to .279.
Urshela and Gary Sanchez were acquired from the Yankees for Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the offseason.
The bigger news could be that another key offseason acquisition returned to the lineup. Carlos Correa hadn’t played since May 29 due to COVID protocols. He hit second and was the designated hitter in Wednesday’s win. Correa had a hit, a walk and two runs scored. Minnesota has won its last five games when Correa scores at least one run. Correa scored what proved to be the winning run in Wednesday’s 8-1 victory when he scored on a single by Jose Miranda in the fourth inning.
Miranda matched his career high with three RBIs in the game.

Jorge Polanco is 4-for-8 with a double and home run in the series to lead the Twins. For the Yankees, Aaron Hicks is 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two walks.

Yankees at Twins Prediction
While the Yankees’ recent record on the road has been pretty mediocre, it will be hard to hold down the powerful New York lineup on consecutive days. Cole has been throwing well recently while Bundy has had his issues for the Twins.
Having Correa back in the lineup is a start for a Minnesota team dealing with so many injuries. Perhaps the bounce-back win on Wednesday will get Minnesota going again. A new name was added to the injury list when infielder Luis Arraez missed the last game with a shoulder injury.
