Power Surge Continues
The New York Yankees will take on the Chicago White Sox in the second of a four-game series on Friday night. The visiting Yankees won Thursday’s series opener 15-7 behind two Giancarlo Stanton homers and overall excellent offensive play.
The game is set to get underway at 8:10 p.m. ET at Chicago’s Guaranteed Rate Field.
Yankees: Year to Win it All?
The New York Yankees have the best record in baseball at 23-8 and have won four straight games, building a new win streak after they recently went on an 11-game tear.
New York is dangerous because it has been winning in dominant fashion. But, even when games are close, the Yankees are coming up with ways to still get by their opponent, which is the mark of a great team.
Aaron Judge leads the majors with 11 homers, while Stanton and Anthony Rizzo are tied for third in the league with nine apiece. The Yankees, unsurprisingly, are second in home runs and eighth in batting average, giving them the firepower needed to mount a serious run to the postseason.
New York was one of the most popular MLB picks to take the American League East, but it has fallen victim to being overhyped in the past and needed to overcome this stigma.
Gerrit Cole (2-0, 2.67 ERA) will be on the bump for the pinstripers in their return to Chicago, coming off of a 6.1-inning start in which he gave up one earned run his last outing against the Texas Rangers.
White Sox: Disappointment Compounds
Much like the Yankees were viewed favorably in the offseason, so too were the White Sox. Pundits and MLB odds alike favored them to win the American League Central, but they are only 15-15 and find themselves second in the division on the back of an early-season losing streak.
Tim Anderson has been a model of consistency, but that has not been the case for many of his teammates, which is a major reason why Chicago is at .500.
The White Sox also do not have any real offensive catalysts and lack explosive hitters, so they will always struggle with teams like the Yankees that can score in bunches.
Vince Velasquez (2-2, 3.97 ERA) will take the mound for the home team after he held the Boston Red Sox to one earned run in five innings during his last start.
Yankees vs White Sox Head-to-Head
The Yankees won this season’s only matchup. New York was 5-1 vs. Chicago last season.

Yankees vs White Sox Prediction
The Yankees should win this game fairly easily. They have been better, are playing better, and dismantled the White Sox in the series opener.
Even worse for the White Sox, they scored a recent seven runs despite their offensive limitations but did not even reach half of New York’s total.
There is no realistic path to victory in a series for the White Sox, barring significant injury or otherworldly pitching, so taking them to win a game where they also have a defensive disadvantage just is not smart.
Take the Yankees to win and win big in Chicago.
