Pogačar Chases Third Consecutive Trophy in Paris
Tour de France, 109th Edition
The 2022 Tour de France will mark the 109th edition of the race, which was first introduced in 1903 as an event to promote a local newspaper but has quickly blossomed into one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world.
Besides its popularity among viewers, Tour de France is also a big hit among online sports betting fans. And, given the high potential payouts it offers, it’s easy to see why.
Let’s check the latest Tour de France Picks, stats, injury reports, and Tour de France odds for Tour de France 2022. We’ve plenty of Tour de France predictions.
Can Pogačar Three-Peat?
Tour de France odds show Tadej Pogačar as the main favorite, which makes perfect sense. He is not only the defending champion but a back-to-back winner of the event, having decimated the field in 2020 in his debut before another convincing victory in 2021 when he won all three classifications.
Talking about his success in 2021, Pogačar went to the Tokyo Olympics just a few days after winning TDF and claimed a bronze medal, making him the first rider in history to win trophies from Tour de France and the Olympics in the same year.
Aside from his past success, Pogačar is also the current No. 1 on the UCI World Rankings, which partially makes him the top rider for each race, but especially in the Tour de France, a race he clearly loves.
This year, he has already won Tirreno–Adriatico, UAE Tour, Tour of Slovenia and Strade Bianche, so form isn’t an issue. If we draw a line, very little would suggest Pogačar can’t win, granted there is one issue.
Many of his teammates have recently tested positive for COVID, which could harm Pogačar’s chances of winning TDF.
“It doesn’t look like a good situation. It doesn’t look good,” said Pogačar when commenting on the news.
Among others, Mikel Bjerg and Vegard Stake Laengen were both sent home from Tour of Slovenia, which is concerning, knowing that they’re key domestiques for Pogačar’s run in France.
Roglič’s Redemption
According to the online betting odds, Pogačar (-140) is the clear favorite to win the 2022 Tour de France, but that doesn’t mean there are no riders left in the field who can challenge him. In fact, the list of riders that can potentially challenge Pogačar is quite long, but one name stands out – Primož Roglič.
Pogačar’s countryman and a former ski jumper, Roglič heads to Tour de France priced as the second co-favorite at +400, which seems like a fair price. Even though he is just as talented ad Pogačar and in some races far more successful, he has yet to win Tour de France so it makes sense for the online betting sites to price him at +400.
Still, we must remember that Roglič nearly won the 2020 Tour de France, and he would had, had he not lost the battle with Pogačar. It truly was an exceptional ending to the race, but while you have to acknowledge Pogačar’s performance on that day, we must also keep in mind that Roglič was very close to winning it in his third attempt.
In his debut, Roglič finished 38th (2017), was fourth in 2018 and second in 2020. Last year, Roglič was again in the mix to win, but he crashed his bike (several times) before calling it quits. But despite his incident last year, we would not look past Roglič.
Is there a world where he crashes again? Yes, but his mishaps in 2021 are more a testament to the fact that any rider can crash out rather than Pogačar’s inability to stay on his bike.

2022 Tour de France Prediction
Tadej Pogačar is the sportsbook favorite to win the 2022 Tour de France, and for a very good reason. He won it twice in a row and is in exceptional form, having won three major races already this season.
However, at -175, Pogačar isn’t the most appealing bet. He is the most likely victor, but considering how much talent is in the field, we wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up second or even third.
Admittedly, Primož Roglič and Jonas Vingegaard are the only two riders who can realistically challenge him, but sometimes two strong challengers are enough for you not to win. So instead of Pogačar, we’ll side with Roglič at +400.
Even though he has yet to win Tour de France, that does not change the fact that Roglič is more than capable of doing it. He nearly won it in 2020 and could have competed for the title in 2021.
It’s also worth noting that Roglič has already won Paris–Nice and Critérium du Dauphiné this year and won Stage 1 of Tour of the Basque Country – where he finished eighth overall – so +400 is not a bad price. When betting online, bet on Roglić to deliver.
