Vingegaard’s Race To Lose
The 2022 Tour de France has two stages remaining, but while the race is not technically finished yet, it is more than fair to say that the winner is already locked in.
Priced as low as -6666, Jonas Vingegaard is all but guaranteed to win Tour de France, having built up enough of a lead that he is only required to ride his bike to the finish line.
One-Man Race
The Tour de France started as a race with many potential candidates to claim the prestigious title, but as we near the final stages, it’s becoming clear that there was just one rider who was destined to win it. It’s been awhile since we last saw such a one-sided race; but it wasn’t like that from the start.
From the first stage up to a couple weeks back, Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar were both in the mix to win, with Geraint Thomas close behind as a live underdog. But as the current cycling odds show, the 2022 Tour de France is now Vingegaard’s race to lose.
The 25-year-old Dane is priced as low as -6666 on most online sports betting sites, which clearly shows how this race should end. But while Vingegaard has an absurdly low price on the outright betting markets, it is a fair one.
The Dane has been holding the lead since Stage 11, and even though he has shown some cracks in the recent stages, Vingegaard heads into Stage 20 with a massive lead of 3 minutes, 21 seconds ahead of Tadej Pogačar, which even for the defending champion will be too much to overcome.
At this point, it’s fair to say that Vingegaard will win as long as he doesn’t fall or is forced to exit the race due to COVID.
Pogačar Admits Defeat
Sometimes you have to admit defeat, and while such things are only appropriate when there is no way for you to overcome the final obstacle, Pogačar felt like this is the right time to throw in his towel.
Although he will still look to finish the race and secure a good placement in one of the world’s most prestigious cycling events, the Slovenian rider has stated that the victory has gone for him.
As the main favorite to win Tour de France, Pogačar is now down nearly three and a half minutes with only Saturday’s 40.7-kilometer time trial race ahead. Anything can happen, but realistically Pogačar’s chances to secure his third consecutive Tour de France are surely gone.
“The Tour is more or less decided. I congratulated Jonas on today and on the Tour. I think he’s won it,” said Pogačar after Thursday’s 18th stage.
Some might argue that the race would look much different had Pogačar not lost key teammates due to COVID, but the Slovenian cyclist has played down the unfortunate circumstances, claiming that even with a full team, it would be tough to beat Vingegaard.

2022 Tour de France Prediction
At this point, there is no reason for anyone to bet online on the winner of the race. Vingegaard will surely win, but you wouldn’t bet on him at -6666, knowing that there is a slim chance he falls or suffers another incident that could make him out of the race.
Even the top three are more or less locked in, with Vingegaard, Pogačar and Thomas priced as massive favorites. While there is usually a way to find a bet on most sporting events, the Tour de France stands out as an event where we’re left with no solid betting options.
