Road teams feasted last week as all four won. This included Hamilton, which kept its playoff hopes alive by winning a third straight game as an underdog. Can the Tiger-Cats stay hot as it head all the way west to visit the rested Lions? It’s just one of four high-scoring matchups for CFL Week 17 as the playoffs get closer. We examine the three best CFL football odds to bet on.
3 CFL Betting Predictions for Week 17
1. Blue Bombers to Oust Elks Again?
For a second straight week, Winnipeg will look to beat Edmonton. The final score of 27-14 did not reflect how close the game was as it was 10-10 heading to the fourth quarter. But led by Brady Oliveira, who for 127 yards and two majors, Winnipeg’s offense is getting better. With the action shifting to the “Peg”, the Bombers are comfortably favored at -4½.

Edmonton’s loss snapped its six-game cover streak. The Elks are still 4-1 ATS in their last five road games but have also lost 11 straight games to Winnipeg. We’d have to go back to the 2018 season for Edmonton’s last win. This was before Zach Collaros was the Bombers quarterback.
We’ll have to trust Winnipeg here as it resembles its championship form. Its offense finding shape is bad news for the rest of the CFL as the defense remains elite leading the CFL in scoring (20.6 points allowed per game) and yards (340.5). That’s partly why the total of 49½ is the lowest for Week 17. We’ll bet online on the Bombers to win and cover.
2. Tiger-Cats Storm the Lions’ Den
Will it be four straight wins for Hamilton? The CFL betting lines say “nay!” as Hamilton enters BC Place as a +7 underdog. The “Tabbies” have covered in four straight games and in four of the last five matchups against the Lions. Bo Levi Mitchell is having a renaissance with Hamilton and it reminds us of a former Calgary great: Henry Burriss.
Maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves. But Hamilton’s win over Toronto also signified an improved defense. Hamilton’s bottom-ranked ‘D’ allowed just 26.5 points since getting smoked for 47 by Edmonton. This should be good enough to let the offense, which leads the CFL in yards (409.3 per game), to keep the game close.

BC’s defense gives up 25 points per game but gives up plenty of yards (385.4). The Lions have also failed to cover in four straight games and similarly against the last four losing teams it played. This is “Hamilton or pass” in what should be a high-scoring game, hence the highest total of the week at 53½.

3. Montreal and Toronto Get Feisty
Montreal and Toronto are supposedly the best teams in the East. But the latter is 7-7 and 1-4 ATS in its last five games. The former, on the other hand, is coming off a win over Ottawa. But the Alouettes are also just 1-3 ATS in their last four games. While the spread is tight here at just 1½ in favor of Montreal, none of their last three matchups have been close.
The winner of the last three games did so by double figures. Toronto blew out the Als in Montreal 37-18 as a seven-point underdog in their last meeting. Meanwhile, Montreal won the last two trips to Toronto. This one should still favor Montreal as the odds indicate. But the best CFL prediction here could be in the total.
Toronto’s defense has given up 31 or more points in three of its last four games. Montreal averages nearly 27 points per game and has scored 30+ in three straight games against Toronto. We could see fireworks again as the 51½ total indicates. Hence, we’re betting on it to go over as it tends to when either team faces an opponent with a .500 record or better.
