It’s a big week in the CFL as Week 13 features the iconic Labor Day Weekend. This is when the CFL matches up their biggest rivals over the long weekend north of the border. As such, our CFL expert expects plenty of volatility on the CFL football lines. We can still make some shrewd picks if we focus on recent trends.

4 CFL Betting Predictions, Picks for Week 13

1. Lions, Redblacks Rematch in British Columbia

Losers of five straight, the BC Lions are 2½-point favorites at home in a rematch against Ottawa. The Redblacks beat BC by a touchdown last week. However, quarterback Nathan Rourke has started to look like himself despite not throwing a touchdown pass. Ottawa, on the other hand, continues to roll and is unbeaten in six straight games (5-0-1).

If we’d bet online on a side here, we’d take Ottawa as an underdog. But we’re eyeing that total at 50½ points. There is still value as these teams have potent offenses but subpar defenses. BC is last in passing defense while Ottawa gives up over 24 points a game.

On top of that, the totals have gone over in these teams’ last five meetings. At least one team has hit 30+ points in these matchups. We don’t see this trend ending now so bet the over.

Bet on Redblacks vs Lions Over 50½ (-110)

2. Winnipeg Rolling, Saskatchewan Reeling

The Saskatchewan-Winnipeg rivalry is like the Green Bay vs Minnesota of the CFL. Their annual Labor Day Weekend meeting will be competitive. Winnipeg, which started poorly, has now won three straight. It dispatched the Tiger-Cats despite another rough outing from quarterback Zach Collaros. Saskatchewan, on the other hand, is winless in five straight games (0-4-1).

Still, the CFL odds have Winnipeg as the 1½-point underdog in Saskatchewan. The Riders have won 15 of their last 18 Labor Day games against the Bombers. However, Winnipeg has won nine of their last 11 meetings overall.

Given recent form, we’ll bet on the Blue Bombers to make that 10 of the last 12. Winnipeg is just 3-8 against the spread (ATS) this season. But it is 5-2 ATS in its last seven games following an ATS win. Additionally, we trust the Bombers’ defense to shut down Saskatchewan’s ailing offense.

3. Tiger-Cats Dig Deep to Sink Argonauts

Speaking of the Tiger-Cats, they host the Argonauts on Monday. The odds have Hamilton as a five-point underdog as the last-place team in the CFL. Toronto has also beaten Hamilton in six of their last seven meetings. But during Labor Day, Hamilton has won seven of the last nine times. This one will be good and our money is on the dog.

Initially, we’d go conservative and take the points on Hamilton at +5 in CFL lines. But why not bet it to upset Toronto? The Argonauts are still vulnerable and have not had a convincing victory since blowing out Montreal thanks to a Cody Fajardo injury. Toronto won two of its last three games by two points or fewer. And its 14-point win against Calgary was against the worst road team.

Toronto is also just 1-3 as a visitor this season and is 2-6 ATS in its last eight road games. Hamilton is not a world-beater with its porous defense. But the “Tabbies” showed life against the Bombers while the offense has scored 23+ points in five of the last seven games. We see enough reason to take the dog shot.

Bet on Hamilton Tiger-Cats to Win the Game(+200)

4. Elks Look to Deliver in Calgary

Can the Edmonton Elks make it back-to-back upsets? We’re tempted to roll Edmonton at +135. But this Elks team is the epitome of “so close yet so far.” Get this. Edmonton is 3-8 but has a +7 point differential. Five of Edmonton’s seven losses have come by four points or fewer and it has only lost by double figures once.

In Calgary, the visiting Elks face a top-notch home team that is 4-1 at McMahon Stadium. But Edmonton is also 7-4 ATS this season and 5-1 ATS in its last six road games. Still, Calgary has owned Edmonton in this “rivalry.” Calgary has even won 10 of their last 11 Labor Day meetings.

Thus, we’ll still pick Calgary to win. However, the Stamps do not deserve our full confidence given their 2-5 record in their last seven games. Their defense is also subpar, having given up 30+ points in these five defeats. Thus, take the points on Edmonton as the best CFL bet in a high-scoring meeting.

Bet on Edmonton Elks +2½ (-110)
