CFL Odds: QB Issues to Impact Week 8 Betting Lines

- You can bet online on these matchups at the BetUS Sportsbook.
The upsets continued for the CFL in Week 7. And approaching the midway point of the season, we’re at a time when it’s a headache to gauge just where teams stand. The oddsmakers feel the same as the CFL football betting lines for Week 8 are as tight as they could be. Of course, the marquee matchup’s odds are further complicated given the status of the starting quarterbacks.

CFL Betting Predictions and Picks for Week 8
Alouettes Host Roughriders With QBs on the Mend
Cody Fajardo remains “iffy” for the Montreal Alouettes. He got hurt against Toronto in Week 6, which contributed to Montreal’s first defeat. Caleb Evans is projected as the starter coming off a relief appearance where he completed 12-of-22 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Head coach Jason Maas has expressed confidence in his new QB.

And the latest CFL odds give Montreal the edge over Saskatchewan as a three-point favorite. Shea Patterson remains the Riders’ starter with Trevor Harris still rehabbing. The former Wolverine could also play with an edge having just welcomed a new baby. However, starting running back A.J. Oulette is also out for the visitors.
Given these uncertainties, and these teams boasting the top two scoring defenses, the total of 46½ is the lowest for the week. However, the total has also gone over in seven of Saskatchewan’s last eight road games and Montreal’s last four at home.
Something tells us Saskatchewan could pull off another upset here at +140 on the moneyline.
Elks Favored Over Tabbies Despite Record
Edmonton is the only winless team in the CFL. And yet, the Elks are 3½-point favorites hosting the Tiger-Cats. Hamilton just upset Toronto as a three-point underdog last week. It was the first time it won or covered a spread this season. If the oddsmakers are on point here, Hamilton could be in for a letdown spot.
Additionally, the total is the highest at 53 points. That’s due to these teams’ porous defenses. These teams combine to allow opponents to score an average of 60.9 points. Edmonton is giving up a league-high 403.5 yards per game while Hamilton also allows opposing QBs to average a 108.8 passer rating.
Given these conditions, the high total is warranted. We’re riding with the ‘over’ here. Four of Edmonton’s last five home games have gone this way as has eight of these clubs’ last 11 meetings.

Razor-Thin Odds for Friday, and Saturday Games
Our other two CFL Week 8 games see Calgary visiting Ottawa and Toronto hosting Winnipeg. The Stampeders and Argonauts are one-point favorites. The former upset BC as 4½-point underdogs last week while Toronto lost to the Tiger-Cats.
Calgary is 3-3 for the season but a sterling 5-1 as a CFL pick against the spread (ATS). It is also 7-1 ATS in its last eight games played on a Friday night. Ottawa is 4-2 this season but has been outscored by 20 points. The Redblacks are also just 6-13 ATS in their last 20 games following a win. Talk about inconsistency. Back Calgary to get its first road win here.
Toronto, on the other hand, is 4-2 ATS this season but just 4-9 ATS in its last 13 games against Winnipeg. The Blue Bombers are struggling mightily this 2024 and are just 2-5 (1-6 ATS). They are ranked last in scoring and total offense. Winnipeg opened as the Grey Cup favorite entering the season so it could pick it up at some point. But count us out on betting it. Instead, bet the total to go under 49½.
