CFL Week 3 Breakdown: Winnipeg vs BC & Other Must-Bet Games
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were a losing team for the second straight week. It’s the first time since 2016 for this franchise. But no one is panicking – not the locker room and certainly not the oddsmakers as they jot Winnipeg as a two-point favorite per the latest CFL odds. The Bombers host BC, which bounced back from a Week 1 loss, in what should be Week 3’s must-see matchup.
“You’ve just got to fix it. That’s a tough one to answer. I don’t think anyone is panicking. All you can do is your best, give your best every single day.”

CFL Week 3: Bombers-Lions Headline as Argos Return
Winnipeg and BC headline what is shaping out to be the best week in the 2024 CFL season. Toronto returns as a moderate favorite over Edmonton, which is 0-2 but has proven to be a tough out. The unbeaten Montreal Alouettes, the defending Grey Cup champs, open the week against Ottawa while an immediate rematch caps off the week in Saskatchewan.
Still Betting Favorite Despite Skid
The Bombers enter Week 3 as a favorite at the BetUs sportsbook yet again. They approach Week 3 like any other week per head coach Mike O’Shea. “We’re just going along like every other week. This is a regular week for us,” he said. And that’s a low-key bold answer given how Winnipeg hosts BC, which is coming from a 26-17 win over Calgary.
“We certainly don’t want guys gripping their sticks too tight, searching for things they don’t need to search for.”
The moment should not be too big for Winnipeg, which still consists of veterans who have been to consecutive Grey Cup appearances. But this is a crossroads game for Winnipeg. A loss will put them at 0-3 and potentially last in the division. And yet a win, especially one over BC, will erase any doubts about this team’s potential.
At a -135 moneyline, Winnipeg has the edge over BC. But the total at 51, the highest for CFL Week 3, indicates that the Bombers will need to win this via shootout. These teams can score in bunches and their last five meetings have averaged 48.6 points
Can Toronto Cover Spread Against Edmonton?
Toronto opened its 2024 CFL season with an upset over the Lions. The Argos opened as six-point underdogs. Now, they look to avoid having the opposite happen as they host Edmonton as six-point favorites. The Elks are 0-2 for the season but covered and nearly defeated the Alouettes last week.
Elks quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson has completed 72.6% of his passes for 636 yards and two touchdowns. But he’s also thrown three picks. Therein lies Edmonton’s weakness: turnovers. The Elks have committed costly giveaways and could even be 2-0 had they been more careful.
They’ll need to tighten up against Toronto, a team that ranked in the top four of the league in forcing giveaways and sacks. The Argos are also 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last six games against teams with losing records. Backing Toronto to blow Edmonton out will likely come by scoring off the Elks’ turnovers.
Will the Over Hit Again? Roughriders vs. Tiger-Cats Betting Trends
The Roughriders put together another epic comeback for a second straight week. Saskatchewan overcame a 10-point deficit heading to the fourth quarter and edged Hamilton 33-30. In two weeks, Saskatchewan has outscored its opponents 37-6. As such, they’re favored by 2½ points in this immediate rematch.
If we’re siding with Saskatchewan, we may just do live betting for this one. Saskatchewan has needed comebacks to win and go 2-0 ATS. The Roughriders are still flawed and get lit up in the air, giving up 358 yards on average. They tend to fall behind and thus need QB Trevor Harris to play some “hero ball.”
Another angle to look at here is the total, which is at 50½. Nine of the Roughriders’ last 10 games have gone over. And playing in Mosaic Stadium, 10 of their last 11 games have trended similarly. We may just get an encore from last week.
