The Saskatchewan Roughriders can finally kick the Winnipeg Blue Bombers off the West Division throne. Fudge the Canadian football odds on this. Winnipeg is favored due to home turf and a better overall and head-to-head record. But Saskatchewan has the tools to finally snap Winnipeg’s four-season streak of winning the West Division. Saskatchewan will take out Winnipeg, which is at its most vulnerable, in what should be a nail-biter of a West Final playoff matchup.
“So let’s tee it up and let’s go play ball.”

2 Best Picks for Roughriders vs Blue Bombers
1. Saskatchewan Must halt Winnipeg Dominance
The Roughriders and Blue Bombers are the CFL’s greatest rivals. But it hasn’t been much of a rivalry since Winnipeg has owned Saskatchewan since acquiring Zach Collaros (also a former Roughrider). The Blue Bombers have won eight of their last 10 meetings and nine straight home games, but this could finally be the year to snap the skid. And if not, we’re betting online on Saskatchewan to cover.
We’d have to go back to 2018 to find Saskatchewan’s last win in Winnipeg. But the Blue Bombers have also shown their age this season. Collaros posted his worst stats as a member of the Bombers while Winnipeg’s 11-7 record is its worst since 2019.
Still, Winnipeg won nine of its final 10 games and went 7-3 as a CFL pick against the spread (ATS). It will not be easy to take out the team that still boasts the CFL’s top defense. And while Collaros has not been as elite, the Blue Bombers have a long list of playmakers starting with Most Outstanding Player favorite Brady Oliveira.
But Saskatchewan is also peaking at the right time. It has won four of its last five games. That only loss was an inconsequential game played mainly with backups. Against BC, Saskatchewan reasserted itself in the victory.
“I felt like we were loose going into the game and obviously left some stuff out there, could have been better, but playoffs are about survive and advance and we did that,” said Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris.

Saskatchewan has the grit to make Winnipeg sweat. However, the Blue Bombers still have the experience edge. Winnipeg is also 5-2 ATS in its last seven Division Finals games. Hence, our Canadian football prediction still leans on Winnipeg.
But given the spread and the intangibles, our money is on Saskatchewan to cover. Don’t blink on this one as we could see late-game drama.

2. Bet on Low-Scoring Grind Between Archrivals
“Defense wins championships,” said legendary coach Bear Bryant 50+ years ago. Winnipeg took that adage to heart and is closing in on a fifth straight Grey Cup Final appearance. The Blue Bombers allow just 20.3 points per game, which tops the CFL. It’s also why most of their games have gone under the total in CFL lines. This one should follow suit.

Winnipeg’s last five playoff games at home have gone under the total, as have five of its last six games against winning teams. The Blue Bombers have not allowed a team to score more than 23 points in 12 of their last 15 games. Saskatchewan did engage Winnipeg in a high-scoring Labor Day Classic, which totaled 68 points.
This is an aberration even if Winnipeg consistently scored 30+ on Saskatchewan. The Blue Bombers’ offense is not what it used to be. So we’re expecting a game more in line with the 21-17 result of the 2021 West Final.
Saskatchewan’s defense has been stellar. It ranks in the top three in scoring (23.8 points per game), yards (373.8) and interceptions (1.4). Collaros has been turnover-prone this season and it can feed into Rolan Milligan, who has eight interceptions.
The online sports betting line spots the total at 48, which is just under what the Banjo Bowl produced. Bet on the under.

Question Of The Day
How many points do the Roughriders allow?
Saskatchewan gives up an average of 26.6 points this season. This ranks fourth in the CFL.
