Verstappen Favored Across the Board on ‘Home Circuit’

It’s a homecoming for Max Verstappen and Red Bull this Sunday. While the Red Bull Ring is also the last time Ferrari won, the F1 lines heavily favor Verstappen in every category. The two-time defending champion should get the best in practice and qualifying on Friday, the sprint on Saturday, and the race on Sunday. But will a rainy forecast alter any results?

Will it Rain on Red Bull’s Parade?

Once again, rain is forecast for the Austrian Grand Prix. The slippery conditions could cause quite some chaos as it did in Montreal two weeks ago. But it shouldn’t deter Verstappen and Red Bull from breaking yet another record. The Belgian-Dutchman can break the three-way tie with a win here. That would give him four wins at the Austrian Grand Prix.

As well explore a variety of other F1 odds here to win!

Verstappen is favored to win at -350 and to do it from pole position (-200). To do so, Verstappen will have to win the qualifying on Friday, not the Sprint as F1 made the change for 2023. Still, Verstappen did win last year’s Sprint though it did not lead to a win on Sunday.

Still, Verstappen is an automatic F1 pick at this point as he’s won four straight races with the last three coming from the top spot. However, the home team does face a serious threat in Ferrari and it would be prudent to keep an eye on the Italian team as they have the pace to challenge.

Ferrari Could Emerge as the Underdogs

It’s time for Ferrari to finally do some damage. The constructor is far back in fourth place but has steadily improved. Montreal was a good sign for the team as it outgained Mercedes and Aston Martin in points. More impressively, Ferrari had a smart strategy. You don’t hear that often.

But there is more than optimism in how Ferrari attacks the Red Bull Ring. It was the only race it won in the latter half of 2022. The track has long straights that can push each team’s engines to the limit. Carlos Sainz suffered an engine failure last year. But the new Ferrari has been efficient at high-speed sections.

As such, it’s not a terrible underdog to bet online on Ferrari to snap Red Bull’s winning streak at 12-1. Alternatively, a top-six finish for both Leclerc and Sainz is valued at +110 and could be one of the best F1 betting spots this Sunday.

The Sprint is a Different Ballgame

As we saw in Baku, the Sprint will not yield similar results as one would think in a full-blown race. The Sprint is on Saturday with the Sprint shootout, the qualifying for the race, held earlier in the morning.

In Azerbaijan, Sergio Perez won while Leclerc came in second despite starting first on the grid. Verstappen came in at third just behind Leclerc. The online sports betting odds still favor Verstappen to win at -250 while Perez and Leclerc are tied with Fernando Alonso at +800 on the Austrian Grand Prix

The favorite has won three of the seven Sprint races. Cars with the fastest straight-line speed could benefit here with the shorter run time. On the contrary, Aston Martin’s strength on the chicanes and its acceleration is also worth noting.

F1 Austrian Grand Prix Picks and Prediction

As far as the race goes, Ferrari’s positive F1 news should carry over to the Red Bull Ring. It would be a shock to see any driver other than Verstappen win here. Those feeling gutsy can wager on Leclerc to win again at 22-1. But the best value should be on him and Sainz finishing in the top six.
