F1 Japan GP Prediction, Odds and Picks Apr 6: McLaren Sizzles Amidst Drama

The 2025 F1 Japanese Grand Prix can’t be missed. On top of all the narratives from the Red Bull driver controversy to the heated race between McLaren’s drivers, there is something to watch or bet on. The F1 odds remain unchanged, and the Papaya team, specifically Lando Norris, is comfortably set to win. But our eyes are on the best value bets given the lines.

My Top 3 F1 Japan GP Predictions

1. McLaren Wins (-250)

At -250, McLaren is the wide favorite to win per the Japanese Grand Prix odds. This would be McLaren’s first Suzuka win since 2011 with Jenson Button. Norris is lined at +140 while Oscar Piastri is at +200. If we were to pick, we’d take Norris as he’s proven to be a more reliable driver. But that’s not saying much. The best bet may be to just bet on McLaren.

The odds are not ideal. But McLaren has asserted itself as a league above everyone else. Max Verstappen has pushed the Red Bull to its capacity and is a distant third-placer, while Ferrari can’t stop getting out of its own way. Mercedes is also a runner-up at best.

We may see a situation similar to 1989, where McLaren teammates, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, collided. But this race is set early, so we don’t foresee Norris or Piastri being that desperate to cause a crash. Either one will win this race. Our money is on Norris.

Bet on Winning Car – McLaren (-250)

2. Lewis Hamilton Podium Finish (+160)

While McLaren wins, there are two drivers worth betting on to come in next: Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. The last two drivers to win the title are now long shots on the F1 championship odds. But they’ve also been two of the most successful at Suzuka. Verstappen won the last three races while Hamilton’s five wins are the second-most all-time.

We’re not betting on either to win the race. Instead, pick between them for a podium finish. Verstappen is listed at even odds (+100) while Hamilton is at +160. The former has been more consistent, but the latter has a higher ceiling with his Ferrari.

The SF-25 seems to suit Hamilton more than his running mate, Charles Leclerc). Hamilton already flashed brilliance when he won the Chinese Grand Prix sprint race. It’s unlikely he gets disqualified again, so he’s our F1 pick to be the third man on the podium.

Bet on Podium Finish – Lewis Hamilton (+160)

3. Lawson’s Revenge; Outdoes Tsunoda

Another head-to-head to keep an eye on is the one within Red Bull. Yuki Tsunoda, the man who usurped Liam Lawson’s seat, has already been a popular F1 prediction to make waves. He’s racing in his home country and has had a strong start with the VCARB. Meanwhile, Lawson is ranked 17th and has yet to score a point. But we can’t overlook the line here.

Lawson is listed at +300 to beat Tsunoda. He does not even have to score a point, but only to finish ahead of him. The VCARB is not much worse than Red Bull. Arguably, it is even better for Lawson as the RB21 may be too tailored to Verstappen. He was not supportive of the switch for a reason, and pundits have similarly criticized the vehicle and not Lawson.

So Lawson could enter the Japanese GP already with an edge. Additionally, he faces less pressure as the Racing Bulls are like a “farm team”. He’s got nothing to lose but everything to gain. Tsunoda, on the other hand, gets extra pressure as he is on home soil. We like Lawson to beat Tsunoda and make positive F1 news for a change.

Bet Lawson to Beat Tsunoda in the Race (+300)
