Indy 500: Best Prop Bets, Predictions, Race Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks

Who Will Be Drinking Milk Sunday?

The legendary Indy 500 race culminates each year with the winning driver chugging a bottle of milk. This is a reference and homage to legendary 1936 winner Louis Meyer, who drank milk after his victory because his mother said it would cool him on a hot day.

Now the post-race celebration is not only admired but is a tradition. Every driver now celebrates with milk, like Takuma Sato pictured above. Sato has won two Indy 500s in the past five years. Will he make it three in less than ten years by winning the race Sunday? The sportsbooks and NASCAR odds have him.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, reports, and Motor Sports odds for the Indy 500. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.

What Are Prop Bets?

Prop bets in motorsports are any bet that isn’t a matchup or an outright winner, whether that be a team or a driver. An example of a prop bet would be “will ____ driver lead a lap?” or “Will ____ driver finish top five?”

Prop bets are often the most fun types of bet because they don’t require you to pick the correct winner. This allows more room for error in the driver you’ve chosen and can be a lot of fun to bet on if you’re making the right Indycar betting picks.

Best Prop Bets on the Indy 500

Some of the best bets in motor racing are prop bets. Here I’ll give you three prop bets and why they’re worth your time.

  • Takuma Sato to Lead a Lap -115: Sato is a multiple-time winner at this track and has won twice in the past five years. Sato also has shown in practice he has the speed to be near the front. Sato leading a lap at -115 seems like a lock.
  • Alex Palou Top Three Finish: YES +200: Palou came in second place at last season’s Indy 500, and is out for redemption. The IndyCar betting odds have Palou as a +200 underdog to finish in the top three, which seems like a steal. Make sure to bet on this one before the line changes.
  • Will Power Top Five Finish: YES +150: Power is the current Championship leader for IndyCar, but despite this, he is only +150 to finish the Indy 500 in the top five. Power has finished every race this year in the top five.

IndyCar Results and Matchups

So far, the IndyCar 2022 season has been entertaining. Championship leader Will Power has five top-five finishes, and second place is Alex Palou, 14 points behind the leader. Neither of these drivers has won a race this year despite their success.

Josef Newgarden is the only driver with more than one win this season but currently sits at +1100 on the Indycar betting odds. Newgarden, despite winning two races, has finished outside the top ten in every race besides the ones he’s won.

If you’re thinking about betting online Scott Dixon is the number one favorite according to the IndyCar betting lines. He has been having a great season as well and sits in fifth place in the standings. He also has been doing great in practice sessions at the Indy 500 so far, as he is hoping to make up for early retirement in last year’s race.

Indy 500 Betting Prediction

There are many different prop bets to look at when you are approaching the Indy 500 betting odds. A fun and exciting way to bet is using prop bets.

The betting lines are tight at the top of the table, and prop bets are a good way to avoid getting burnt by crashes. My betting pick is Takuma Sato at +2000 to win the Indy 500.

Sato won the Indy 500 in 2017 and 2020, which shows he very much knows how to perform well on this legendary track. Sato had early success in practice runs and was impressed with his speed.

His experience will help him at this track, and I fully expect him to lead at least one lap, whether that be due to pit stops or not.

Pick: Takuma Sato to lead a lap: YES (-115)
