Odds Don’t Matter
It’s been one of the more topsy-turvy seasons in NASCAR history. Why wouldn’t that continue in the first leg of the playoffs?
With 16 drivers in the playoff field, why couldn’t a +7000 longshot in Erik Jones rally and capture the checkered flag in the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington last Sunday?
The season started with Austin Cindric winning (at +3000) in the Daytona 500, and it seems as if it’s going to end in a similarly unpredictable manner. Seventeen different drivers have won the 27 races so far this season.
Is It Logano Time?
So, after Joey Logano finished fourth at Darlington, that was sufficient to take the lead in the playoff standings.
Logano, after starting in the pole at the Lady in Black, he did lead in 64 laps. At least, that was a momentum builder ahead of the Kansas Speedway, where Logano held off Kevin Harvick (2020) to take the checkered flag.
Logano finished 17th in the Spring race at Kansas. It wasn’t all that bad since he started in 34th. Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch went 1-2-3 in that race. Logano finished in the top 10 at the Hollywood Casino 400 last season, and has a nice return on investment, priced at +1600 odds.
Tri-Favorites For The Flag
It was Denny Hamlin finishing .252 seconds behind Jones in second at Darlington, He was paying +650 on the board. Hamlin went into the Southern 500 in sixth place in the playoff standings, but now jumped to third heading to the Hollywood Casino 400.
Hamlin is one of three drivers set as +650 favorites (same as his number at Darlington) at the Kansas Speedway, #11 finishing fourth in the race this past spring.. He also won here in 2019 and 2020.
Kyle Busch is another one of the +650 choices for the Hollywood Casino 400 . He finished third bere in the spring.
Busch led a race-high 155 laps at Darlington, looking in line for the win until engine problems after a late caution. He will try to rebound in Kansas, where he won (spring) in 2021.
Kyle Larson rounds out the +650 faves for Sunday’s race, but his crew needs to fine-tune things if he wants to grab the checkered flag. Larson had some issues under the hood Sunday, then ended 12th.
Larson is the defending Hollywood Casino 400 champion, leading 130 laps and holding off his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Chase Elliott, here last season (note Larson has now moved to +700).

NASCAR Cup Hollywood Casino 400 Prediction
Can a “playoff driver” come through at Kansas, or is it going to be another longshot (see Justin Haley at +25000 or Ty Dillon at +50000)?
Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott couldn’t even con conclude Darlington, though that;s a tough track. Do they have rebound potential here in Kansas?
It’s not a chic pick, but Denny Hamlin is the car to beat. He almost had the win last out. so we tab him here.
