No. 5 Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch is 14th in the NASCAR Cup standings, but I think he’s going to have a chance to get the outright win on Sunday. Busch has two Top-10 finishes and one Top-5 finish in four races this season. More importantly, Busch is a consistent challenger to win at Phoenix. In 31 career races in Phoenix the 35-year-old Las Vegas native has a whopping 22 Top-10 finishes, 12 Top-5 finishes and three wins. Busch has taken the checkered flag in two of the last five races in Phoenix by winning the Can-Am 500 in the fall of 2018 and the Ticket Guardian 500 in the spring of 2019. He finished eighth in the NASCAR standings a year ago after winning the crown in 2019. Busch should be hungry and I believe his familiarity and success in Phoenix makes him a top five pick to win this coming weekend.

No. 4 Chase Elliott
Fourth in the NASCAR standings, 25-year-old reigning champ Chase Elliott has one Top-5 finish in four races, but comes into this event off a 13th place finish in Las Vegas last weekend. The Georgia native won five races a year ago and took home the checkered flag at Phoenix Raceway in the fall, Season Finale 500. Elliott also finished seventh in the spring race at Phoenix last year and has recorded a stellar six, Top-10 finishes in 10 career appearances at the track. Elliott has one second place finish in Phoenix and a third place finish as well. I expect the reigning champ to push for the outright win even though he’s not my top pick to win.
No. 3 Denny Hamlin
Four races into the 2021 season, the 40-year-old Hamlin sits atop the NASCAR Cup standings with three Top-5 finishes including a fourth place finish in Las Vegas last weekend. Last year, Hamlin finished 20th in the spring race at Phoenix before finishing fourth in the fall, Season Finale 500. In 31 career appearances at the track, the Florida native has recorded a stellar 18 Top-10 finishes and 14 Top-5 finishes. Hamlin has taken the checkered flag twice at Phoenix, most recently, in the Bluegreen Vacations 500 in the fall of 2019.
No. 2 Joey Logano
Sixth in the NASCAR Cup standings, 30-year-old Joey Logano has two Top-10 finishes in four races this season and one Top-5 finish. More importantly, in 24 career appearances in Phoenix, the Connecticut native has recorded a fantastic, 13 Top-10 finishes, five Top-5 finishes and two wins. Logano took home the hardware in the spring Fan Shield 500 race at Phoenix last year before finishing third in the Season Finale 500 fall race. Hell, Logano has four straight Top 10 finishes on the track, making him my No. 2 pick to get the win in Phoenix this coming weekend.
No. 1 Kevin Harvick
Seventh in the NASCAR standings, I love the value that Kevin Harvick is offering coming into this event. In four races this season, Harvick has three Top-10 finishes and a pair of Top-5 finishes. In 36 career races at Phoenix, the California native has recorded a mind-boggling 25 Top-10 finishes, 18 Top-5 finishes and a whopping nine wins. Harvick finished second in last year’s spring Fan Shield 500 race at Phoenix before finishing 11th in the Season Finale 500 fall race at the track. Believe it or not, Harvick has recorded an absolutely incredible 15 consecutive Top 10 finishes at Phoenix while winning six times and finishing second on two other occasions. That kind of consistent success makes Harvick my top pick to win in the desert this weekend.
