It’s Formula 1’s final stretch and it’s not an exaggeration to say that this weekend’s United States Grand Prix is the most critical race. There will be a sprint race, which means extra points are on the table. Max Verstappen could inch closer to the title with wins while Lando Norris could finally catch him. The F1 betting odds favor the latter. But can he string consecutive wins for the first time in his career?
2 Bets for the United States GP: McLaren vs Mercedes
1. Lando Norris Leads McLaren
McLaren still has the best car on the grid unless Red Bull uses a game-changing upgrade. Still, the papaya team is favored by the F1 odds to win the sprint (-150) on Saturday and the race (-175) on Sunday. And while McLaren insisted on “papaya rules” (equal treatment of both drivers), the tune changed when Norris got closer to overtaking Verstappen in the standings.

As such, we’ll have to back Norris to win over Piastri. McLaren’s 1A is listed at +100 to win the race and +140 to win the sprint. Norris has done well at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) where he finished second to Verstappen last season and sixth in 2022, which was one of his best results at the time.
Norris edged Verstappen in qualifying in Singapore then won the race by over 20 seconds. He and McLaren have the momentum and we don’t see them going back even with Red Bull’s upgrades. Bet online on Norris to win Sunday’s race.

Additionally, we see McLaren having another strong outing here. A 1-2 finish is likely as Piastri has looked like the best driver when he’s on and at worst, he’s a lock for the podium (barring a retirement). Piastri is -250 to make the podium, which would be his fifth in his last six outings. The line is too steep for us so we’d rather bet on him and Norris to make it.

2. Mercedes Can Return With a Vengeance
Mercedes can potentially sneak up on McLaren and Red Bull. The constructor was on a hot streak and looked to have the second-best cars. But they lost momentum and settled back into fourth. The break has allowed them to refocus and upgrade and it’s good timing as they excel at COTA.
“We bring our final update package of the season to Texas and our aim is to close the gap to the front,” said Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff to various F1 news outlets.
The odds still have Mercedes as a distant contender. Mercedes is +750 to win the race and +700 to win the sprint. The latter might be worth taking a shot at given its shorter format. But the best bet here would be to back Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to finish in the top six of the race.

We’re banking on both McLaren drivers to finish on the podium. But instead of going for chalk and picking Verstappen to be the third, we’re rolling the dice on a Mercedes driver. Say Lewis Hamilton? The odds go from +150 with Verstappen to +800 with Hamilton. While we’d like it longer, there is some value here as Hamilton has a string of podium finishes at COTA going back to 2014 (not counting his DQ last year). This might be the best F1 prediction today.
