Breaking Down the Chaos, the Rosters, and Why Team Rice Might Have This in the Bag

Who’s Got Game? 😁

Expect at least one person to take it way too seriously (looking at you, Terrell Owens)…

The NBA All-Star Celebrity Game tips off Friday at 7 p.m. ET at Oakland Arena, the old Warriors spot. It’s that yearly tradition where celebs get together to prove whether they can actually play ball or if they should stick to their day jobs.

This year two San Francisco sports legends, Barry Bonds and Jerry Rice, are coaching the teams, which honestly makes sense. If there’s one thing you want in a coach for a basketball game, it’s a baseball player and a retired wide receiver.

The Rosters

Team Bonds

  • 2 Chainz (Assistant Coach) – Rapper, occasional hooper
  • Kai Cenat – Streamer, loves chaos
  • Baron Davis – Former NBA player, will have to carry
  • Rome Flynn – Actor, looks athletic enough
  • Allisha Gray – Two-time WNBA All-Star, might be the team’s best hope
  • Mickey Guyton – Country singer, probably here for fun
  • Tucker Halpern – Musician, also an ex-college basketball player
  • Noah Kahan – Singer, least likely MVP according to the odds, which is kind of hilarious
  • Danny Ramirez – Actor
  • Masai Russell – Olympic hurdler, might be fast but can she hoop?
  • Pablo Schreiber – Actor
  • Dylan Wang – Actor, actually played well last year

Team Rice

  • Khaby Lame (Assistant Coach) – Influencer, silent but deadly (maybe)
  • Matt Barnes – Former NBA player, will definitely play like it’s the playoffs
  • Bayley – WWE wrestler, likely to do something good
  • Chris Brickley – Basketball trainer, should be good but no guarantees
  • AP Dhillon – Musician
  • Druski – Comedian, likely to entertain more than score
  • Walker Hayes – Singer
  • Shelby McEwen – Olympic high jumper, might dunk?
  • Terrell Owens – NFL Hall of Famer, always takes these games way too seriously
  • Shaboozey – Singer, how did he end up here
  • Oliver Stark – Actor, the ladies love him
  • Kayla Thornton – WNBA player, expecting big things

Initial Thoughts

Team Rice looks way better than their counterpart. Six players with serious (some not as serious) athletic backgrounds: two WNBA players, a former NBA champion, an Olympic high jumper, a professional trainer, and a football player.

Team Bonds is way more interesting, though. Kai Cenat and 2 Chainz on the same squad? That’ll be fun TV. Noah Kahan playing basketball? Just funny. Baron Davis, Allisha Gray, and Dylan Wang might actually make the game good, but this should be Team Rice’s win.

The Betting Odds

For those who care about NBA All-Star Betting Odds, Team Rice is slightly favored at -130 over Team Bonds at -110, which feels about right.

MVP betting odds is where things get fun. The favorites are Matt Barnes (+300) and Baron Davis (+400), which makes sense since they’re former NBA players. Allisha Gray (+700) and Kayla Thornton (+800) also have solid odds, and they honestly might be safer bets.

Then there’s Noah Kahan, hanging out at +5000, which might be the funniest thing about this game. We love him, but unless MVP stands forMost Valuable Performance of a Guy Who Looks Like He’s Never Washed His Hair,” it’s not happening—no matter how much I would love to see headlines about it in NBA news (sorry Noah, I really do love you).

Where’s IShowSpeed?

Kind of surprising that IShowSpeed isn’t in this game, considering he and Kai just did the influencer Pro Bowl. Maybe he’s taking a break? That doesn’t sound like him, though. The odds actually have a bet on whether or not he’ll make an appearance (+200), so there must be celebrity rumors out there about him potentially coming. It’s Speed, we can’t rule it out.

What to Expect

I’m expecting chaos from Team Bonds. Expect at least one person to take it way too seriously (looking at you, Terrell Owens). Expect Kai Cenat to have a bet line on literally everything he does (yes, you can bet on whether he argues with a ref). And most of all, expect Team Rice to probably win unless Baron Davis and Allisha Gray go crazy.

Then after all that, the real NBA All-Star Game goes down Sunday night, 8 p.m. ET.

And if Noah Kahan wins MVP, I’ll personally buy his next album out of respect.
