The Detroit Pistons’ season is going downhill fast, and a Thursday night showdown with the Brooklyn Nets will not help. The Nets are having a rough start to 2023, but this game with the lowly Pistons is exactly what they need to get back into gear.
Let’s check the latest NBA news, stats, injury report and NBA lines for Pistons vs Nets. We’ve got plenty of NBA picks for you to consider.
Pistons Dead Last in East
There is nothing wrong with an NBA team having 12 wins, just as long as it’s in November. A 12-win team in January usually means your season is over before the All-Star Game. This is exactly how I feel about this Pistons team on a four-game slide. It’s over for them.
The Pistons are a tragic combination of a bad straight-up team mixed with one that can’t cover spreads either. Often bad teams are good ATS bets (see the OKC Thunder), but Detroit is not one of those teams and enters Thursday with a 20-26-3 ATS record. That is the sixth-worst record in the NBA and leaves Pistons’ bettors down -8.60 units with a return on investment of -15.96%.
Don’t expect a light at the end of this tunnel as the Pistons, over their previous 10 games, are 2-8 ATS and down -6.80 units.
Injuries for Detroit are becoming another issue, with Isaiah Livers and Isaiah Stewart questionable for Thursday. Meanwhile, Corey Joseph has been ruled out with back spasms.
Playing shorthanded is hard for any team, but when you rank in the bottom third of both offense and defense, even the smallest absences can have a huge impact.
Nets Getting Back on Track
It was a rough couple of weeks for the Nets, to be sure. After Kevin Durant went down, it became apparent just how important he is to this offense as the Nets went on an immediate 0-4 slide. This after going 14-1 straight up since the end of November. They managed to break that streak with back-to-back wins against the Golden State Warriors and Utah Jazz, but fell back into the loss column on Wednesday 137-133 against Philly. The offense showed up, but the 76ers scored almost at will.
It’s clear now that the Nets’ offensive surge was almost all Durant’s doing. The team had the best offensive rating in the NBA during their hot streak, despite ranking dead last in free throw attempts, 29th offensive rebounding and 24th in turnovers.
Not that Durant’s shooting isn’t there to bail them out, but these issues are becoming more apparent. They are also keeping the Nets on the losing end of most games sans Durant.
Things may be turning around as the Nets are 2-1 SU in their last three games and 3-0 against the spread. Things can only get better with the Pistons in town. If there was a team I’d pick to play without my best player on the court, Detroit would be it.

Pistons vs Nets Picks & Prediction
On a normal night, I wouldn’t go against the Nets in this spot, no matter how absurd the spread was. However, without Durant, I am not willing to take the risk that the rest of the Nets decided to show up or not. The Nets are also on the second night of a back-to-back while the Pistons have had two days to rest and game plan.
Detroit Pistons are listed at +230 in our Vegas NBA lines. If you wager $100 on the Pistons, you can win $230. The Brooklyn Nets are -280, offering a chance to win $36 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Pistons a 30.30% chance to win, with the Nets at 73.68%.

Nets vs Pistons Previous Game (Dec. 18, 2022)
The focus is on basketball and basketball only in Brooklyn, and that’s a problem for the rest of the Eastern Conference. The red-hot Nets look to continue their surge up the conference standings when they wrap up a four-game road trip at the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.
Detroit has been giving up points in bunches lately and should be an easy target for a Brooklyn squad clicking on the offensive end. It all makes for a great chance to do some online gambling.
This is the second-largest spread on the board Sunday in the NBA, and for good reason. With a day of rest, Brooklyn figures to have everyone available and you know the team would love to head home for the holidays with a perfect 4-0 road trip to put under the tree.
