East Rivals Own Nearly Opposite Records

Brooklyn Inches Closer to Sixth Seed

The Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons will face each other on the second of a back-to-back. For the game on Wednesday, the Pistons have a slight advantage since they won’t have to travel, staying home after a 118-105 defeat to the Miami Heat. The Nets also lost, but to the Minnesota Timberwolves 107-102.

While the Nets have their NBA playoff odds mostly sealed up, likely finishing the season with the sixth seed, the Pistons may end up with the worst record in the league. The Pistons have the worst winning percentage, humbly awaiting the Draft Lottery.

Nets Strange Defensive Issues

It has been 25 games since the trade deadline, and the Nets shocked the NBA news cycle by trading away their two All-Stars. Despite that loss of talent, Brooklyn brought in quilty players who have fit seamlessly into the lineup. Mikal Bridges, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Cameron Johnson have all grown on the offensive end, showing skills they did not display on their previous teams.

However, the theory behind this rebuilt Brooklyn team is that it had the length, height, and talent to have a solid defense. The Nets have been the opposite of that, with a defensive rating of 114.4, ranking 14th after the All-Star break.

Bridges made an all-defensive team last season. Dorian Finney-Smith is seen as a top-tier defender, and Nic Claxton was considered a Defensive Player of the Year candidate early this season.

The Nets are not viewed as a possible team to make the second round of the playoffs, according to NBA lines, primarily due to the defense. The offense has found a rhythm, with Bridges and Dinwiddie reaching another level, but the defense has struggled, despite the talent.

Pistons Have Frenchman on Their Mind

Post All-Star break, the Pistons have only won one game out of 20. They have made a concerted effort to begin a race for the bottom of the NBA, which they are winning. However, with the flatted NBA odds, the three worst teams all have the same chances at the No.1 pick, 14%.

Most sportsbooks have French sensation Victor Wembanyama set to be the consensus No.1 pick in the upcoming Draft. It makes sense, given some of his insane highlights, why teams like the Pistons have been cautious in bringing players back from injury in order to get a chance of adding Wembanyama to the roster.

Rookie Jaden Ivey and James Wiseman are the only two names of the Piston’s top scorers not on the injury report. That allows Detroit to give Ivey real game-time experience being the primary ball handler. The team also wants to see if the former second-overall pick, Wiseman, can be part of the Pistons’ future.

Nets vs Pistons Head-to-Head

The Nets won seven straight against the Pistons, including once this season on Dec. 18. However, in these teams’ last meeting, the Pistons won 130-122 on Jan. 26, but the two leading scorers in that game are not on their respective rosters anymore.

Nets vs Pistons Betting Lines

Nets vs Pistons Picks and Prediction

Given the Pistons’ plans for the rest of the season, they have hardly been a good choice for NBA picks. However, the Nets have not been great against the spread (ATS) due to inconsistencies.

With such a large spread, the Pistons may have a chance to cover. The team plays hard, and with this being the second night of a back-to-back, the Nets could lower the minutes of some key players.

The Brooklyn Nets are listed at -600 in our Vegas NBA odds. This means that if you wager $100 on the Nets, you have a chance to win $17. The Detroit Pistons is +450, offering a chance to win $450 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Brooklyn Nets an 85.71% chance to win, with the Detroit Pistons at 18.18%.

Pistons vs Nets Previous Game (Jan 26, 2023)

The Detroit Pistons’ season is going downhill fast, and a Thursday night showdown with the Brooklyn Nets will not help. The Nets are having a rough start to 2023, but this game with the lowly Pistons is exactly what they need to get back into gear.

On a normal night, I wouldn’t go against the Nets in this spot, no matter how absurd the spread was. However, without Durant, I am not willing to take the risk that the rest of the Nets decided to show up or not. The Nets are also on the second night of a back-to-back while the Pistons have had two days to rest and game plan.
