76ers vs Nets Game 4 Prediction, Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks

Philadelphia Bidding for Sweep

This season has been chaotic for the Brooklyn Nets, who managed to end up as the sixth seed despite trading away two All-Star starters. However, they drew the Philadelphia 76ers, who have controlled this series since halftime in Game 1. The 76ers have the third-best NBA Finals odds in the Eastern Conference.

Game 3 was super physical, resulting in two second-half ejections and a kick worthy of one in the first quarter. The 76ers would pull out the gritty win 102-97, with Tyrese Maxey scoring 10 of his team-high 25 points in the final quarter.

The Sixers have a 3-0 series lead entering Saturday’s Game 4. Sometimes a team that is about to be swept wins due to home-court advantage and that should shift some sportsbooks to give the Nets a chance.

Others Stepping Up for 76ers

The problem for the Philadelphia 76ers in the last few seasons has been the unreliable help around Joel Embiid. That has led to him being overworked by the time the playoffs start, along with injury concerns. In Game 3, it was clear the physical toll was already weighing on Embiid, who only scored 14 points. However, his teammates have been a massive help in this playoff series.

In Game 1, the 76ers headlined NBA news by having one of the best playoff shooting performances in franchise history. James Harden made seven of the team’s 21 3-pointers as the 76ers shot 49% from behind the arc. In Game 2, Maxey had a team-high 33 points followed by Embiid and Tobias Harris with 20 apiece. The Nets’ defense went small and focused on Embiid, forcing the ball out of his hands, and his teammates helped him out, leading to seven assists.

Maxey again came through in Game 3, especially after Harden was ejected after a questionable call. The Nets did everything to get the ball out of Embiid’s hands, but Maxey punished them for leaving him open.

Everything has seemingly gone Philadelphia’s way. That should not change, with NBA lines still leaning toward the 76ers getting the sweep in Game 4.

Nets Searching for Answers

Through these first three games, the Brooklyn Nets have been trying to find answers to stop the 76ers or at least make the games more competitive. They first tried crowding the paint in Game 1 and not letting Embiid beat them offensively. This plan has been the staple of Brooklyn’s defense, trying to get the ball out of the possible MVP’s hands.

However, the 76ers made their shots in Game 1. Offensively in that game, the Nets could not get anything going, having 20 turnovers. Outside of Mikal Bridges’ 23 points in the first half, finishing with 30, no other player stepped up.

The defense scheme changed again for Game 2, trying to go small ball and switching everything even more than usual. Nic Claxton saw his minutes drop from 30 to 20, with Royce O’Neale functioning as the primary defender on Embiid, along with multiple double teams. That did not work, and this time on offense Cameron Johnson was the only one making 3s for the Nets, going 5 of 11 for 28 points.

That defensive intensity continued into Game 3, and it was working. The Nets had frustrated and rattled Embiid, possibly injuring him, with Claxton having a great game before being ejected after picking up his second technical for taunting following a dunk.

However, the Nets’ issue through this series has been late-game scoring, with less than 25 points in all three fourth quarters. It was much worse in Game 3, scoring just 15 points and giving up 26 to the 76ers.

Embiid did head to the locker room in the middle of Game 3 with a possible back injury but quickly returned. That could be something to pay attention to.
