Golden State, Dallas Light It Up Despite Absences

The Golden State Warriors rematch the Dallas Mavericks with several stars potentially out. The NBA lines per Golden State as the slight favorite despite being a terrible road team: just 1-11 against the spread (ATS) in its last 12 games. Dallas could miss Luka Doncic (thigh) and/or Kyrie Irving (foot), while Golden State could also miss some of its frontcourt defenders. This could lead to a high-scoring game.

Golden State Remains Terrible on the Road

The Warriors remain one of the worst NBA teams as a visitor: 8-29. Their wins have mainly come against the likes of Houston (twice) and San Antonio. In fact, Cleveland is the only team above .500 Golden State has beaten on the road. Its defense has been the root of its struggles: a 119.7 rating, the third-worst in the NBA.

On top of that, Golden State will head to Dallas, where it is 1-5 in its last six visits, potentially shorthanded. Andrew Wiggins remains sidelined due to personal reasons. Draymond Green (wrist) and Kevon Looney (back) should play but are banged up. The three are Golden State’s main frontcourt players and three of their best defenders.

Fortunately for them, the Warriors still have their best scorers in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. This game will be easier to bet online if Doncic and/or Irving sit out. But if they play, this may just make the NBA news as the highest-scoring game of the night.

Mavericks Better With or Without You?

The last time Dallas played Golden State without Doncic, the team lost but covered as a 10-point underdog. Dallas fell behind by 17 points in the first quarter but then outscored Golden State, which took its foot off the gas pedal and just cruised to a win. Things were a lot different then, as the team still had Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith.

Now, Dallas has Irving in their place. The superstar guard may not play, but if he does, Dallas’ offensive ceiling goes up. Irving is scoring 28.4 points with a 512/410/954 shooting line and 6.1 assists. Dallas is 8.1 points better on offense when he’s on the court.

But playing with Doncic, if he suits up, has been a puzzle the two have yet to figure out. Dallas is just 3-6 when he and Irving play together, which is nine out of the 17 games since he got shipped to Dallas. Either way, the two can easily combine for 70+ points on any night, which may be enough to make Dallas an NBA pick.

Warriors vs Mavericks Game Summary

Mavericks vs Warriors Previous Game (Feb 4, 2023)

A marquee matchup Saturday evening loses some luster as the Dallas Mavericks lose star player Luka Doncic against the Golden State Warriors. The NBA betting odds thus favor the Warriors by a few more points as they look to even the season series. These defensive-minded teams have been evenly matched though this one could become a rout for GS.

Without Doncic, we’re siding with the Warriors here. The spread is not too much and Golden State is 15-9-1 ATS at home. Monitor Green’s situation. If he is a late scratch, take the Warriors’ moneyline unless it drops below three points. Either way, Golden State should handle the Mavericks.
