Does Utah Qualify as ‘Good?’
If you’re a contender, the Chicago Bulls (18-21) have had your number lately, posing wins over the Bucks, Nets, and 76ers – three of the top five teams in the East — over their past six games.
It’s hard to know where the Utah Jazz (20-21) stands as a legitimate postseason contender as they have spent time atop the Western Conference this season but have since dropped to 10th place on the heels of five losses in their last six games. The Jazz are still -1.5 road favorites in Saturday’s NBA spreads.

Jazz vs Bulls Picks & Prediction
The only thing driving bettors away from the Bulls in the Las Vegas odds is the fact they are playing on the back-to-back. LaVine carried Chicago on Friday night, so the rest of the team should be well rested even though four of five starters played 35+ minutes. Chicago is also 4-0-1 ATS in their last five on zero days’ rest.
Markkanen has been playing well for the Jazz, and he’ll likely get him in a revenge spot against his former squad, but he’s scored 28+ points in six straight, and Utah has dropped five of them.
The Utah Jazz are listed at -120 in our Vegas NBA lines. This means that if you wager $100 on Jazz, you have a chance to win $83. The Chicago Bulls are +100, offering a chance to win $100 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Utah Jazz a 54.55% chance to win, with Chicago Bulls at 50.00%.

Jazz Star Returns to Former Stomping Grounds
A change of scenery has done Utah forward Lauri Markkanen wonders. After spending his first four years in Chicago and then having a layover in Cleveland for the 2021-22 season, Markkanen is finally finding his potential in Utah, averaging a career-high 24.5 ppg and coming off a monstrous 49-point outing against Houston on Thursday.
There were some differences when Markkanen left Chicago – he was 23 years old when he was dealt to the Cavaliers, but also at a career low in minutes and points, so a change was needed. Markkanen is thriving in Utah and has led the Jazz to the No. 3 scoring offense in the NBA (117.5) and is just entering his peak.
Markkanen has scored 28+ points in six straight games, but Utah is just 1-5 over that span, so they’re going to need to find some balance vs. Chicago. They will not get that balance from Collin Sexton (14.1 ppg) because he’s yet to play since New Year’s Eve following a hamstring injury.
Chicago Tries to Battle Through Fatigue
The major reason the Bulls are +1.5 home underdogs in Saturday’s NBA free picks despite Utah struggling lately is that Chicago is playing on no rest following their 126-112 win in Philadelphia on Friday. That was on the heels of a 121-112 victory over the second-place Nets two nights before, so Billy Donovan’s team could be due for a letdown.
Aside from back-to-back losses to end 2022 and start 2023, Chicago has shown more consistency going 7-3 over their last 10. Even in the losses to the fourth-place Cavs, they were by one point (103-102) and then in OT on the road (145-135), so those could be considered “quality defeats,” if there is such a thing.
The Bulls got 41 points from Zach LaVine on Friday night as he was dialed in going 11-13 from 3-point range. He has played on the back end of Chicago’s last two games on consecutive nights, so is he a full go against Utah? Both LaVine and DeMar DeRozan have gone for 40+ points multiple times in the last six games.
Jazz vs Bulls Head-to-Head
Saturday’s game is the second and final meeting between Utah and Chicago this season, with the Bulls picking up a 114-107 win in Salt Lake City on November 28. The Bulls were +2 point underdogs in betting online for that contest, so they try to go 2-0 ATS vs. Utah on the year.
