The Philadelphia 76ers (27-16) won’t need to travel at all for their next road game against the Los Angeles Clippers (23-22) Tuesday night. It is the third of a five-game West Coast trip, winning the first two, most recently beating the Los Angeles Lakers 113-112 behind Joel Embiid’s 35 points.
In the Clippers’ last game on Sunday, they beat the Houston Rockets 121-100, but it was much closer than expected. The game was 91-90 headed into the final quarter, and then the Clippers outscored the Rockets 30-10 behind a career night from Terance Mann, scoring 31 points.

76ers Getting Healthy
In the first half of the season, the 76ers have had several injuries to their core three players, Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey, missing substantial time. Especially Maxey, who has missed the most time out of the three, has been working himself back into his usual role over the last nine games. His return has sparked the offense but hampered the defense.
Outside of his first game, where he was limited to under 20 minutes, Maxey has averaged 18.5 points but on poor shooting. The 76ers are 6-2 in those eight games. His presence has helped the 76ers‘ offensive rating, which is at 114.9 but 120 over this stretch, fourth best in that time.
However, the defensive rating has taken a dip since then, still ranked fifth best in defensive rating, but since Maxey’s return to regular minutes, it is 116.7, the seventh worst. That has resulted in Maxey moving to the bench for the Lakers game, allowing De’Anthony Melton to remain a starter, being a much better defender.
Despite the 76ers winning seven of their last 10 games, the defense is why they have gone 4-6 against the spread (ATS). They are finally getting healthy and playing better, but they still have a lot to work out before the 76ers reach their peak.
Clippers Underlying Problems
The Clippers won their last game by 21 points. But it was against Houston, arguably, the worst team in the league. The teams were separated by one point heading into the fourth quarter, and it was only the Clippers’ second win in their last nine games. While it looks like a big win on paper, the underlying problems that have plagued the Clippers’ season have remained.
Offensively, the Clippers have struggled a lot more than expected. They average 109.4 points per game, the third lowest in the league. A big reason for that is not the lack of talent, having seven players averaging over 10 points per game. Instead, it’s the fact that there’s no consistency on who will be on the court or not. Injuries continue to be a problem, with Paul George and Marcus Morris, the new starters, missing time and Kawhi Leonard sitting back-to-backs.
Without Mann’s career-scoring night, the Clippers could have lost. Maybe his game is a much-needed boost for the offense, but offensive issues remain apparent, and it might be hard to break out of that.

76ers vs Clippers Picks & Prediction
With the Clippers’ injuries and the players that the 76ers are starting to reintegrate, it should help them win their second game in the Crypto.com Arena in three days. Leonard will likely play since it’s just the first back-to-back for the Clippers, but George is out. While their defense has been the team’s strength, the offense won’t keep up with what the 76ers can offer.
Embiid is also on a tear in the last four games, averaging 32.8 points after a three-game absence.

Clippers vs 76ers Previous Game (Dec 23, 2022)
With the Clippers not coming off a back-to-back and having a day off before their next game, it looks likely that Leonard will be in the starting lineup. The 76ers’ winning streak will be on the line against a formidable opponent, but they will be at home, going 13-5 on their court.
It should be a relatively low-scoring game, with the teams being in the top five in points allowed and defensive rating. However, the 76ers having Embiid and Harden should give them an advantage.
