Mavericks vs Rockets Game Analysis
Doncic, Mavericks on Tear
Luka Doncic is the hottest player in the NBA right now, and he’s bringing the Dallas Mavericks with him with his MVP-caliber play. Doncic had his third 50-point effort in five games with 61 points against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night, and he’s the first player in NBA history to have 250 points, 50 rebounds and 50 assists over a five-game span.
“It’s incredible,” Mavericks center Christian Wood said after Saturday’s win. “In my seven years in the league, I’ve never seen anybody do what he’s able to do. He’s on an incredible run. He’s playing like an MVP. Clearly one of the best players in the league.”
Doncic finished with nine assists, six rebounds, and four steals against the Spurs, hitting six 3-pointers. He’s averaging a league-high 34.2 points while ranking fourth in the NBA with 8.9 assists per contest.
Wood has been turning up his production of late as well, averaging 23.7 points over the last four games. He’s averaging 17.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in his first season with the Mavericks after coming over from the Houston Rockets in the offseason.
Rockets Struggling to Keep Up
The Houston Rockets have shown glimpses of their potential at times this season, but they have been having trouble keeping up with opponents of late, losing their last three contests by an average of 19.6 points. The team’s offense really struggled against the New York Knicks on Saturday, scoring just 88 points in a 20-point setback.
One thing that hurt the Rockets against New York was the absence of center Alperen Sengun, who is also listed as questionable for Monday’s contest due to a back injury. The 20-year-old is averaging 14.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, giving the team a presence in the paint.
Guard Jalen Green had 19 points, three rebounds, and three assists against New York, but he also turned the ball over five times. The 20-year-old is leading Houston with 21.5 points per game while also averaging 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
Guard Kevin Porter Jr. had a near-triple-double against the Knicks, finishing with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, but he also had five turnovers. Porter is averaging 19.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists.
Mavericks vs Rockets Head-to-Head
These teams have already squared off three times this season, with the Dallas Mavericks holding a 2-1 advantage. The Houston Rockets snapped a four-game losing streak to Dallas with a win in the first matchup in November.
The Mavericks have won in their last three games at Houston, including a victory on Dec. 23. The NBA lines for Monday’s game are favoring red-hot Dallas to earn another road win in this one.
