Memphis Rolls Into Orlando on Four-Game Winning Streak

Memphis Is Back

Although the Orlando Magic have a record resembling a team that has given up on the season, they have not. They have won three straight and will face the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday, a team that has started to play as their NBA Finals odds show once again.

In the Magic’s last game, they beat the Brooklyn Nets 119-106 on Sunday, having a complete team win with eight players in double figures. The Grizzlies also won their previous game, for six straight, beating the Atlanta Hawks 123-119 in Ja Morant’s return to the starting lineup.

Magic Not Giving Up

Now sitting in 13th in the Eastern Conference and 4½ from becoming a play-in team, the Magic’s NBA playoff odds are pretty much finalized. The team will miss the playoffs, but it is hard to count this season as a failure. There were not a lot of expectations, and Orlando has been more than competitive compared to what most people expected.

The Magic have seemingly made the opposite of the “smart decision” for a rebuilding team and aren’t focused on having the best draft odds. Orlando has been playing great in the second half of the season, which has helped it get into the conversation for a play-in spot.

The Magic have used this season to build something with the players they have instead of focusing on acquiring more talent, making the team solid for NBA picks having the third-best record against the spread (ATS).

Against the Nets, the Magic’s current talent was on full display, with backup point guard Cole Anthony leading the team in scoring, coming off the bench with 21 points. Franz Wagner led the Magic’s starters with 19 points, while likely Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero only scored 11.

Grizzlies Looking Like Finals Contenders Again

For a while, the NBA news cycle seemed to fixate on the Grizzlies and their off-court situations. Every day there was a new story around the Morant drama or the Grizzlies dealing with injuries and on-the-court drama.

Now that Morant’s eight-game suspension is over, things are returning to normal. Memphis has won six straight, including two games on the road, which has been its issue this season. In Morant’s first two games back, he came off the bench, still getting settled, but played well.

Morant was back in the starting lineup to face the Hawks and continued to look like himself with 27 points and six assists. He was not the only one with a big game. Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. showed why this team could be prominent in the playoffs.

The Grizzlies are still firmly second in the West. Their NBA lines for the Finals are set at +1400 on BetUS, which may drop soon, given how they are playing.

Magic vs Grizzlies Picks and Prediction

Both teams are playing well, but the Grizzlies have the better roster. They should be able to beat the Magic, especially with the Grizzlies having the best winning percentage at home.

However, there is a chance that the Magic could cover a large spread. They have covered six straight games, which gives them a chance. It would still be a tall task against a team like the Grizzlies, who thrive at home.

The Memphis Grizzlies are listed at -290 in our Vegas NBA odds. This means that if you wager $100 on the Grizzlies, you have a chance to win $34. The Orlando Magic is +240, offering a chance to win $240 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Memphis Grizzlies a 74.36% chance to win, with the Orlando Magic at 29.41%

Magic vs Grizzlies Game Summary

Grizzlies vs Magic Previous Game (Jan 5, 2023)

The Memphis Grizzlies have won their last four games and by pretty solid margins. Each of those games has seen the Grizzlies win by at least 10 points, which is an interesting note to keep in mind if you’re looking at Wednesday’s NBA betting odds, where they’re favored by six.

The Grizzlies are listed as six-point favorites in the sportsbook, which makes sense considering that they’ve beaten their last four by over double digits.

Keep in mind that the Magic are 10-11 at home this season, which isn’t bad when you consider they’re 4-13 on the road.

The Magic is an intriguing pick here – especially if Bol Bol and Suggs can play. The Grizzlies are just 9-10 on the road and played last night, so fatigue could factor in. Take the points with the Magic for your NBA picks.
