Minnesota Aiming for Fifth Win in Row
Wednesday’s nightcap features the Phoenix Suns hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves in a game featuring teams fighting for playoff seeding. The Suns are currently the No. 4 seed and are nearly guaranteed to make the playoffs. On the other hand, the Timberwolves are the No. 7 seed, but just two games separate them and the No. 11th seeded Dallas Mavericks.
The NBA lines list the Suns as five-point home favorites with Deandre Ayton back in action and Kevin Durant potentially suiting up.

Timberwolves Streaking
The Timberwolves are fighting tooth and nail to play out of the play-in tournament and into the top six of the Western Conference. So far, their quest is going well, with a four-game winning streak against four good teams. They beat the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings on back-to-back nights to start the week and look to keep the party going in Phoenix.
There are some slight injury concerns for the Timberwolves, with Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards probable to play on Wednesday. Each missed two games last week, but the T-Wolves still won, so no harm, no foul. But I recommend watching the injury report because things can change instantly, and one or both may rest. Jaylen Nowell and Taurean Prince are both questionable.
The T-Wolves could be significantly shorthanded on Wednesday, or maybe not. That is both the fun and the torture of NBA betting.
Suns May be Back at Full Strength
The best NBA news the Suns can get is confirmation that Durant is healthy enough to return to action. Phoenix welcomed Ayton back on Monday but was still without its best player in Durant. It has to be frustrating to pull off the most significant trade of the season, only for your new player to make just three starts since March 1. Especially considering the Suns were 3-0 in those games.
Durant is questionable to return against the Timberwolves. He is the lone name on the injury report for Suns, which is nearly at full strength.
In Durant’s absence, Devin Booker has played at an elite level to help keep the Suns winning. In the last month, Booker is averaging a fantastic 32.7 points per game, shooting over 56% from the field. He also contributes on the boards and is a great passer.
While the Suns have been winning, their NBA betting record at home leaves much to be desired at 4-5-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games.

Timberwolves vs Suns Head-to-Head
The Suns hold a 2-1 season series lead after two early victories in November, one at home and one on the road. The Timberwolves responded with a 121-116 victory in January at home. Phoenix, however, is on a five-game ATS winning streak over Minnesota.

Timberwolves vs Suns Picks and Prediction
My money is on Durant making his first home start for the Suns on Wednesday. Ergo, my NBA picks are on Phoenix to get the job down now that their full roster is back on the court. Two of Minnesota’s stars are banged up, and while they may play, I believe they are in worse shape than the injury report suggests.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are listed at +163 in our Vegas NBA lines. If you wager $100 on the Timberwolves, you can win $163. The Phoenix Suns are -190, offering a chance to win $53 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Timberwolves a 38.02% chance to win, with the Suns at 65.52%

Timberwolves vs Suns Game Summary
Suns vs Timberwolves Previous Game (Jan 13, 2023)
Friday’s NBA action features a matchup between the Phoenix Suns (21-22) and Minnesota Timberwolves (20-22). After entering the season with playoff expectations, both teams have struggled and are in danger of missing the postseason with sub-.500 records.
The Suns have a big advantage from three, ranking third in 3-point percentage while Minnesota is 29th in opponent 3-point percentage. However, Phoenix could without Johnson, Paul, Shamet, Payne, and Booker, who all shoot 37% or better from deep. The Suns’ 3-point shooting is far from normal; they shot 28.1% on threes against the Nuggets on Wednesday.
Phoenix simply does not have enough right now. The Wolves have covered three consecutive games at home, while the Suns are 2-4 ATS in their last six away games. Take Minnesota to cover.
