The Struggle is Real

The New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns are struggling, with only one win from their last five games.

Momentum is much-needed and the winner could get their season back on track when they square off on Monday.

NBA betting markets have the Knicks at -1 to record their 20th win of the year, and end a nine-game slide against the Suns.

Suns Not Booking Wins

Without Devin Booker on the floor, the Suns aren’t the same offensive machine. They scored 102 and 104 points in consecutive losses to the Wizards and Raptors, so that doesn’t bode well.

They have played their last four games on the road and with only one win from their last six games, they are not even close to being the Suns team we expect.

Bookers’ absence means they need to find 27.1 points per game elsewhere and there just isn’t a good variety of shooters to choose from. Having Cameron Payne and Landry Shamet out is another negative, so the sportsbook could have opened them much longer than +1.

They committed 27 turnovers against the Raptors, which Chris Paul put on himself.

“I don’t know how many games I’ve ever played in with 27 turnovers,” Paul said. “That’s a lot. It started with me.”

The Suns are 19-18 against the spread, so they’re doing enough to keep bettors happy. However, they haven’t had much success lately. They are 2-4 ATS from the last six games, so it could be best for bettors to wait for their full roster to return to health.

Knicks Doing Enough

Expectations on the Knicks are usually low because not making the playoffs has been ingrained into their culture.

However, there are higher expectations in 2023 and it could continue with a win over the Suns on Monday.

Having five consecutive games following a lengthy winning streak, the Knicks need to knuckle down and focus on winning games. That’s made harder with RJ Barrett sidelined, but there are no real excuses for losing to San Antonio last week.

“It’s the nature of the league,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. “You win eight in a row and then you have some tough losses … that’s part of it. How do you respond to it? We took a haymaker … and we bounced back.”

They also lost to the Mavericks, 76ers and Bulls, but at least they were close games. They come off a 108-88 win over Houston, so the defense kicked in and we’re not surprised by the NBA odds available.

They are 19-16-2 ATS, so bettors are happy and with the likes of the Spurs, Raptors and Bucks on the horizon, beating the Suns is a must for staying above .500.
