While Hachimura is a good offensive forward, scoring 30 points in his last game with the Wizards, he is not a great defender or rebounder. Despite being 6-foot-8, he only averages 4.3 rebounds and has never had a season with a defensive rating over 116. On top of that, he isn’t a great 3-point shooter, having nearly all his 2.9 attempts per game on catch-and-shoot while making just 33%.
Overall, this isn’t a bad addition to the Lakers because the upside is there, and they didn’t give up much, but it doesn’t move the needle that much. It may be the first of many moves to come.
