NBA betting is set to make its return on July 30th but after such a long break, fans will need a little help getting back on track. Our 2020 NBA power rankings will have you making the winning prediction in no time. Below we’ll cover the teams that were the hottest before the NBA went on break as well as the teams that showed off the most during the NBA scrimmages. We’ll also be taking a look at each teams’ NBA title odds.
2020 NBA Power Rankings for Return of Season
Los Angeles Lakers | 49-14 (.778) | +200 Title Odds
Most NBA sportsbook bettors might disagree with the Lakers coming in at No. 1. However, when we last saw Los Angeles (March 11th the hiatus took effect) they were one of the hottest teams in the NBA. Granted February 10 is a long ways off, but what they were accomplishing deserves remembrance.
Before the NBA season went on hold, the Lakers posted an 11-2 record in their last 13-matches. Not only that, they managed to take out both the Bucks and Clippers in one weekend. In those matchups. LeBron James elected to take on Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard head on.
Which brings us to our next point; a well-rested James. Over the last couple of seasons, we’ve seen James-led teams hit a mid-to-late season hump. Most NBA analysts rationalize this as James letting off the gas, keeping some in the tank for the NBA playoffs. Well this pandemic has afforded James the ability to refill his tank. So with a fully-rested LeBron James, a terrifying playmaker in Anthony Davis, and with the whole city of Los Angeles behind them, it’s easy to see why the Lakers come in at No. 1.

Milwaukee Bucks | 53-12 (.815) | +225 Title Odds
Most sports betting fans would put the Bucks in at No. 1 on this list. After all, they have the best record of the list. Nevertheless, the NBA title odds agree that the Lakers look a little better as we get ready for the NBA to pick back up.
That’s not to say that the Bucks are less motivated than the James-Davis duo. Nobody would deny the Greek Freak’s drive, uncanny ability or his Kia MVP title. Ultimately Milwaukee has a legitimate shot at an NBA title this season. In fact, anything other than a Finals appearance will be considered a disappointment. Now the question is whether or not Antetokounmpo is enough to get Milwaukee an NBA title. With the likes of Khris Middleton, George Hill and Eric Bledsoe backing him up, he might just have to be.

Los Angeles Clippers | 44-20 (.688) | +325 Title Odds
Like their intra-city rivals, the Clippers are hopeful that the NBA break has given Kawhi Leonard and Paul George the time to nurse any health issues. However, that’s not the only health issues the Clippers are fretting about. To clarify, they’ve had six rotation players refrain from joining the team in the Orlando bubble at one point. Now they’re still down one (Montrezl Harrel – family issues), with the bulk of players undergoing a quarantine in order to return.
That said, if the Clippers can come back as a unit, they should be lethal. Their 3 primary offensive players; Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Lou Williams, need no help getting to the basket. When it comes to shooting, the Clippers rank amongst the best in the league. In fact, they have nine players shooting better than the league average (35.7%) from the 3.
Their defensive numbers are impressive as well. Ivica Zubac forces opponents to shoot 46.2% at the rim when he’s protecting it.

Toronto Raptors | 46-18 (.719) | +1400 Title Odds
The loss of Kawhi Leonard was substantial but the Raptors are faring better than anticipated. The loss of a reigning Finals MVP is nothing to shake a stick at but the defending champs have shown the grit to be a top-two team in the Eastern Conference. Granted some NBA betting fans might argue that the Raptors have an easier time due to being in the East. However, the East is currently led by the No. 2 team on our list, so the conference is no walk in the park.
Defense is undoubtedly the strong suit of this Toronto team. Statistically Toronto is better defensively this season than last, when they ended up taking an NBA title. But to win another title, the team will need offensive production. For that they have Pascal Siakam, Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet.

Boston Celtics | 43-21 (.672) | +1500 Title Odds
Surprisingly enough, Boston is the only team in the East that ranks in the Top 5 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Hey, maybe what they say about the East is true after all. All in all, Boston has a legitimate shot at making the NBA Finals this season. Right now they wield the best defense (106 allowed per 100 possessions through 17 games) against the league’s top 10 scoring offenses. Nevertheless, they’re facing the worst odds of this Top 5 list. Not only that, the Houston Rockets are facing slightly better than odds than both Boston and Toronto.

One thing to note is that the76ers have been Boston’s kryptonite this season. They’ve lost to Philadelphia three times and could be facing an early dismissal from the playoffs if paired up against the 76ers.
