2022-23 NBA Preview: Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks’ title defense fell short as they lost to the Boston Celtics in seven games in the second round of the playoffs. However, the season overall went well as the big three of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday all put up their usual numbers.

Not having Brook Lopez for most of the season hurt as it required Antetokounmpo to play many more minutes as the center and be the primary rim defender. On the other hand, it did give Bobby Portis a starting role, and he thrived.

During the offseason, the Bucks did not do many things to change the roster. They signed Joe Ingles, recovering from an ACL tear, and drafted MarJon Beauchamp, who could prove to be a solid piece down the line.

Let’s check the latest NBA picks, stats, injury reports, and NBA predictions. We’ve plenty of NBA expert picks for you to consider.

Milwaukee Bucks Odds

  • To win the NBA championship +800
  • To win Eastern Conference +325
  • To win Central Division -250
  • To make playoffs Yes -5000/ No +1100

Player to Watch

Antetokounmpo is the obvious answer. He seems to get better every season while already being one of the best players in the NBA. Last season, it was his passing and decision-making that improved. None of his traditional playmaking stats went up, but everything looked smoother as he dealt with doubles and traps in the post, making the right read most of the time.

He was also asked to play more minutes as the center as the Bucks were forced to go small more often. This was the lineup that won him the Finals MVP.

The next evolution in his game is the 3-point shot, which, honestly, he might not even need. Antetokounmpo improved his shooting from the midrange last season, going up over 20% in shots over three feet from the basket. Adding just the threat of a three-point shot could bring the Bucks to a whole new level of terrifying on the court.

  • Player to Watch: F/C Giannis Antetokounmpo

Breakout Player

Basketball analysts have been hoping that Jordan Nwora could put it together and be the missing link for this Bucks team. The rest of the wing depth is pretty settled, between Grayson Allen, Wesley Matthews, and Pat Connaughton as 3-and-D players.

Nwora does fit into that role but offers something more than the other three with his athleticism and length. He is three inches taller than Connaughton, the tallest of the three, which gives him more versatility on defense. In theory, he could offer up more defense while maintaining the spacing on the court. Nwora could also play alongside the other key wings on the roster as a forward. He played less than 20 minutes per game last season, but maybe he could be an added bonus if given a chance.

Bucks Outlook

The Bucks didn’t do much to change their roster, which makes sense because there aren’t many weaknesses. The team’s big three are proven winners, and last season the roster was hit with injuries, slowing them down.

It is possible the Bucks could get off to a slow start with Middleton recovering from an off-season wrist surgery. Additionally, the regular season means less to the team after winning the NBA Finals two years ago. The Finals is the only thing on this team’s mind, so they may not win their division, but they are still NBA Finals contenders.
