5 Teams That Should Go All In for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Two-Time NBA MVP Could Leave Milwaukee in Search of a New Adventure

Greek Freak on the Move

For the fourth straight season since winning a championship, the Milwaukee Bucks were bounced early in the NBA playoffs. To make things worse, they’ve been knocked out in the first round in each of the last three years.

Much of those struggles have been due to injuries coming at the worst time, but it doesn’t look like the Bucks have an avenue to get better next season with Damian Lillard likely missing the whole season with an Achilles injury.

This has led to speculation that two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo could finally explore a trade. ESPN’s Shams Charania even dropped some NBA news when he reported that Giannis is keeping an open mind about a possible move.

We’re going to go through the five best fits for the superstar big man.

5. Los Angeles Lakers

Anytime a big name is involved in trade rumors, the Lakers are one of the first teams that start getting brought up. Giannis with Luka Doncic would be the NBA’s most exciting duo. Giannis has flirted with the Lakers in the past, so he may not be opposed to it. The problem with this is that the Lakers don’t have the best package of assets to offer the Bucks. Gianns would have to force his way to Los Angeles.

4. New York Knicks

The Knicks are another team that constantly gets linked to big names, but unlike the Lakers, they may have the assets to make this work. It would likely require them trading Karl-Anthony Towns and/or Mikal Bridges, but pairing Giannis with Jalen Brunson would make them instant title favorites.

3. Houston Rockets

The Rockets had a great regular season, but flopped in the first round of the playoffs. They have the young assets to put an appealing trade package together for the Bucks. They’re clearly a young team headed in the right direction, but could need a veteran star like Giannis to get over the hump.

2. San Antonio Spurs

Many NBA picks and predictions believe the Spurs will be the team to end up with Giannis. It’s easy to see how it’s appealing to everyone involved. Giannis would be able to form the best frontcourt in the NBA with Victor Wembanyama. Plus, the Spurs just landed the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which could be an asset that the Bucks want.

1. Oklahoma City Thunder

Whether or not the Thunder would go after Giannis could depend on how the rest of the playoffs play out. If they win the championship, they’ll likely keep their current squad together. If they get knocked out, they might have the best package to offer the Bucks. They have so many draft picks to throw at Milwaukee. Plus, Giannis could help them start the next NBA dynasty.
