How Many Antetokounmpo Brothers are in the NBA?

As of March 2025, Giannis is the only Antetokounmpo brother on the active NBA roster. Thanasis and Kostas were most recently in the NBA. Thanasis was with Giannis in Milwaukee. They even won an NBA title together in 2021. Kostas won a title with the Lakers a year earlier. L.A. was the first of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brothers’ teams to produce a champion.

Who is Giannis’s Brother?

Thanasis is the most popular of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brothers. It’s not just because he had the longest NBA career outside of Giannis or that he played on the same team. It was also because he, like Giannis, had a fun-loving personality. He made up for what he lacked in skills with his optimism and enthusiasm. This made him an asset to the Bucks’ locker room.

In addition, Thanasis, like Giannis, has a hardy personality beneath their joyful demeanor. This is partly due to the hardship the Antetokounmpo brothers faced as children. Giannis emphasizes why it’s important to share his family’s story. Disney concurred and made a film, Rise, chronicling the family’s rise from rags to riches.

Which Antetkounmpo Brothers Were in the NBA?

The Antetokounmpo brothers are not only a feel-good story for families to look up to. They also represent the best Greek basketball players in NBA history. Not every Antetokounmpo became an NBA superstar like Giannis. But from Francis to Alex Antetokounmpo, they have legitimate basketball careers.

Francis Antetokounmpo: born in 1988, Francis is the oldest in the Antetokoumpo brothers’ ages. He was also the shortest, though he still stood 6’5”. Unlike his younger siblings, he was the only one born in Nigeria. He pursued professional soccer in Nigeria and Greece before transitioning to a music career under his middle name, ‘Ofili.’ He released his debut single, Shekosi, on July 22, 2020, showcasing his versatility beyond sports.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo: One of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brothers in the NBA, Thanasis stands 6’7″ and is the second-oldest, having been born in 1992. A free agent as of March 2025, he last played for the Bucks, where he won a title with Giannis. Drafted 51st overall in 2014 by the New York Knicks, Thanasis was productive in the G League and Europe. He earned accolades like two Greek League titles and G League All-Defensive honors.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: how’s this for the middle child? Giannis will go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, non-American players. If we did a ranking of the best international NBA players, he is no worse than in the top four. His other accomplishments include nine consecutive All-Star selections, eight All-NBA honors, and a Defensive Player of the Year award, which he won simultaneously with his second MVP.

Kostas Antetokounmpo: The second-youngest sibling is nine years Francis’s junior but stands 6’10”, second-tallest behind Giannis. He is a power forward for UCAM Murcia in Spain’s Liga ACB. Kostas was drafted 60th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2018 and traded to the Dallas Mavericks, where he primarily played in the G League. He joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019, becoming the first Antetokounmpo brother to win an NBA title.

Alex Antetokounmpo: The youngest of the Antetokounmpo brothers, Alex, was born in 2001. Standing 6’8”, he skipped college to play for UCAM Murcia before declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft. While undrafted, Alex played for G League teams like the Raptors 905 and the Wisconsin Herd. As of March 2025, he competes for PAOK Thessaloniki in the Greek Basketball League.

Is Giannis the Oldest Brother?

Giannis is not the oldest Antetokounmpo brother. He was the middle child, born in 1994, whereas his brothers, Francis and Thanasis, were born in 1988 and 1992. Still, he is the most prominent of his brothers, as he will have a net worth of over $94 million after 2024.

Outside of his NBA salary, which pays him nearly $49 million a season, the “Greek Freak” has inked endorsements with big brands like Nike and JBL. He’s also invested in sports like the MLB’s Milwaukee Brewers. And together with his brothers, he swung into golf ownership by investing in Los Angeles Golf Club, a company pushing for more diversity in golf, and the MLS’s Nashville SC.
