One of the biggest NBA news stories ever dropped over the weekend with the Los Angeles Lakers trading for Luka Doncic. Naturally, any other NBA story was going to fall under the radar.

That’s exactly what happened as there was another blockbuster trade on Sunday. There have been many NBA rumors that De’Aaron Fox was going to get traded from the Sacramento Kings and that finally happened.
Who’s Getting Whom?
Fox is getting sent to the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team deal that also involves the Chicago Bulls. Here’s a breakdown of all the moving parts of the trade:
- Spurs get De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin.
- Kings get Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second-round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back).
- Bulls get Zach Collins, Tre Jones, and Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick via SAS.
Full trade:
Spurs: De’Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin
Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back)

That’s a pretty major trade that should have a big impact on the Western Conference. Once again, it’s hard to understand what the Bulls are doing. They just gave up one of their best players in LaVine and didn’t get any major assets back.
Are Spurs Contenders Now?
While there are three teams involved, the most interesting one to emerge from the deal is the Spurs. They are currently the 12th seed in the Western Conference and need a lot of wins to get into the NBA playoffs. Prior to this trade, betting odds were not good for the Spurs’ chances.
Now, the Spurs could be a popular pick in NBA picks and predictions. De’Aaron Fox’s stats have been elite in recent years. He’s averaging 25.0 points per game right now and is one of the best clutch players in the NBA.
11,000 points
franchise leader in assists.
All-Star.
All-NBA.
most importantly, he kept his promise to our city.
Sacramento King forever.
thank you, 5.@swipathefox 💜

He now gets to play with Victor Wembanyama, who is growing into one of the best players in the NBA. The Spurs aren’t necessarily contenders right now. They have to pass up the Golden State Warriors and Kings in the standings just to get a spot in the play-in tournament. That said, they are not a team I would want to play in the play-in. Even if the stars don’t align this season, the future is very bright in San Antonio.
Wemby is 21 and Fox is 27 so they are a duo the team can build around for a long time.
