The NBA preseason is a great time to watch teams prepare for the upcoming regular-season fixtures.
On the card for Wednesday is the Cleveland Cavaliers vs Philadelphia 76ers in a matchup of Eastern Conference powerhouses.
The Cavaliers are +3300 to win the NBA Championship and they’re one of the biggest movers. The 76ers are +1600, so they are also well-favored.
It has been a rough few years for the Cleveland Cavaliers following LeBron James’ departure, but things are looking to turn around.
Signing Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz was a massive bonus for the young squad, which also includes Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Caris LeVert. It’s one of the more talented rosters in the NBA and that could result in an Eastern Conference title.
There is still a lot of work to be done in Cleveland, but the only way is up and that should reflect with NBA betting markets. It firmed from around +8000 to +3300 with the signing of Mitchell, and although he’s yet to win an NBA title, he’s a stud.
Kevin Love’s experience should also be noted and he’s looking forward to a successful year.
“I think we have the makings of a team that could have four All-Stars,” Love said, pointing to Mitchell, Garland, and Jarrett Allen while also predicting greatness for Mobley. “I think people know what we’re capable of now. If we put it together, we aren’t a team that’s really going to surprise anybody anymore. We’ve got some young stars that I think are going to make a lot of noise this year.”
Bettors should expect shortening odds for the Cavaliers against the 76ers on Wednesday.
76ers in Limbo
We’re not sure what to make of the 76ers, who have James Harden and Joel Embiid, but the team dynamic is interesting.
It seems Harden can’t get along with many NBA teams, including the 76ers, who were disappointedly knocked out of the NBA playoffs by the Miami Heat.
It’s also strange to reason why Tobias Harris has a higher salary than Harden and Embiid, but they’ll be hoping he improves enough to get the 76ers over the hump and to the NBA Finals.
The sportsbook has the 76ers at +1600 to win the title. The odds have Eastern Conference teams at the top of the book, which isn’t the norm. The 76ers shouldn’t be forgotten about and they could display their skills against the Cavaliers. The Sixers beat the Brooklyn Nets 127-108 in Monday’s preseason opener.
Cavaliers vs 76ers Head-to-Head
The 76ers have a slight 114-106 advantage, including the last five wins in 2021 and 2022.
The last two games have been decided by four points, so there’s rarely too much in it and that’s reflected in betting markets.
