Celtics’ East Path to the NBA Finals Keeps Getting Easier
Boston Hasn’t Faced Any Real Competition, the Western Conference Winner Will Be a Different Story
One Win Away From the Finals
The Boston Celtics had the best record in NBA games this season and are cruising through the playoffs but it’s still difficult to buy them as championship favorites. A big reason for that has been their easy path in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The Celtics played the Miami Heat without Jimmy Butler in the first round. They then played the Cleveland Cavaliers and they didn’t have Jarrett Allen all series. They also lost Donovan Mitchell at the end of the series. Now they’re playing the Indiana Pacers, who might be up 2-1 right now had it not been for a few bone-headed decisions at the end of Game 1 and Game 3.

The Celtics are now up 3-0 and Tyrese Haliburton is banged up and might not play in Game 4, per NBA rumors. It’s hard to imagine the Celtics having an easier path to the NBA Finals. The Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, and New York Knicks all dealt with major injuries, which led to early playoff exits. The Celtics aren’t having to face any real competition during this playoff run so the NBA Finals could be a serious wake-up call.

Can Celtics Beat the Winner Out of the West?
Whether or not the Celtics can beat the Dallas Mavericks or Minnesota Timberwolves, will come down to their stars. Jayson Tatum’s stats are decent but not elite. He’s only hitting 29.2% of his threes and hasn’t had to face the steepest of competition.
Either the Timberwolves or Mavericks will be the toughest team they’ve played in over a month. Kristaps Porziņģis could be returning soon, according to NBA news, which would only help the Celtics’ chances but it feels like whoever wins the West is going to win the championship this year.

Boston’s going to go from coasting by to facing real competition. This Celtics team hasn’t shown to have a lot of grit so it’s easy to see them falling apart once they get punched in the mouth.
