Celtics Seek Eastern Final Sweep of Pacers

The Boston Celtics are heavy favorites to avenge last season and make it to the NBA Finals.

They face the Indiana Pacers, who are the +600 underdogs to win the best-of-seven series, which starts with Game 1 on Tuesday.

NBA series odds have the Celtics at -800 to win, which isn’t surprising for the Eastern Conference leaders.

Can the Pacers Get a Win?

We believe the Pacers will be thrashed against the Celtics, and we don’t see much value in their odds to win the series.

The bigger question is whether they will win a game or get swept 4-0. They’re good enough to win one game, which is likely to come at home in either Game 3 or Game 4, but they will need to play well.

We didn’t see anything overly impressive against the New York Knicks. They won all three home games before beating a battered and bruised Knicks outfit in Game 7, so it didn’t impress us.

It was good to see Tyrese Haliburton back to his best. However, he went missing for the first six games of the series, and that’s not going to cut it against the mighty Celtics.

“That’s the game within the game, that’s the fun that is this environment,” Haliburton said. “I would hate to be pissed all summer about not shooting the ball today. So for me it was just about coming out playing the right way.”

If Haliburton and his teammates can’t get excited about facing the Celtics, and the prospect of beating them, then there’s no point playing.

They should come out confidently, but ultimately, it won’t be enough. We expect them to lose 4-0 or 4-1, but we would love to be pleasantly surprised.

It’s Business Time for Boston

After losing to the Miami Heat at this stage last year, it’s all about business for the Celtics.

They want to avenge that series loss, and the Pacers are simply standing in their way temporarily.

We can’t see the Celtics losing the best-of-seven series, and the only way they could is if they suffered injuries to key players such as Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown.

Even then, they are one of the deepest teams in the NBA, and one of the healthiest. They don’t have Kristaps Porzingis, but that has been the case for many games.

With Tatum and Brown in the backcourt, and experienced players in Al Horford and Derrick White, there aren’t many weak links with the NBA title favorites.

They have also had two days more rest than Indiana, and considering how tough the Pacers had to work against the Knicks, Indiana could struggle to find its feet.

We expect Boston to win every game at TD Garden, having lost only four times in the regular season. That bodes well, hence the -820 odds to win, which look as close to a lock as possible.

A Quick Series is a Good Series

For the Celtics, they want to end the series as quickly as possible to prepare for the NBA Finals.

It’s not a forgone conclusion and they’ll need to play well, but class is with the Celtics, and we would be shocked if they were defeated.

The Pacers are big underdogs to make the NBA Finals, and it’s unlikely they’ll make it at the expense of the title favorites.

The best bet is Celtics to win 4-0 or 4-1.
