The Celtics couldn’t have been more impressive in their opening preseason game when beating the Hornets 134-93.
More of the same will be expected from the NBA title favorites, who currently lead a host of Eastern Conference teams at the top of NBA betting markets.
Despite being without their coach after a cheating scandal, bettors are staying true to the Celtics, who have all the makings to make another NBA Finals series.
Despite losing three consecutive games to the Golden State Warriors, there are high hopes. They lost to the Toronto Raptors in their second preseason game in overtime, but it was good to see Jaylen Brown scored 23 points in 27 minutes and Jayson Tatum score 18 points in 29 minutes.
Allowing the Raptors to outscore them 38-20 in the final quarter was not pleasing, but facing the Hornets could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Hornets Stung
The Hornets are still without some key parts of their offense, but it has been a rough start to the preseason.
They lost heavily to the Celtics before losing 122-97 to the Indiana Pacers at home. It has made for disappointing reading, and it could continue into the regular season.
It makes five consecutive heavy defeats, including a 124-108 loss to Washington and a 133-117 loss to Chicago. Not much is going right for the Hornets, who are close to labeling this season as a ‘rebuilding’ year.
We’re not sure if the signing of LiAngelo Ball will pay off, but it has created some excitement.
“It means a lot to be here and play in front of all these guys,” Ball told the Observer. “It’s for sure a great opportunity for me“.
“I feel like I can be a part of the team. I’m just going to play my hardest for sure. But I feel like my game will carry itself and hopefully, I can make the team for sure and play with my brother. But I’m not worried or anything. I’m just excited to go in and play my hardest for real and let my talent talk for me.”
Betting online markets didn’t adjust for the signing of Ball, as they are still expected to struggle.
