NBA Finals: Do Celtics or Mavericks Have the Edge?

Game 1 of the NBA Finals Between Dallas and Boston Will Be Thursday, June 6th

Finals Are Set

After an uneventful round of Conference Finals, the NBA Finals matchup is set. The Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks are set to face off to see who wins the Larry O’Brien Trophy this year.

The Celtics had the best record in NBA games this season with 64 wins. The Celtics roster might be the best in the league as they are stacked with high-end talent. However, it’s difficult to know just how good they are. The Eastern Conference was especially weak this season and every team the Celtics played in the playoffs was missing its best player for at least two games.

Boston hasn’t faced any real competition in the postseason. This isn’t even mentioning the teams they didn’t have to play due to injuries. The Milwaukee Bucks were among the favorites to win the championship but Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the entire first round. Needless to say, the Mavs will be the first real competition the Celtics have faced.

The Mavericks have had the opposite experience as the Celtics. They had to face a tough Clippers team in Round 1 and then the No. 1 seed Thunder in Round 2. They then dominated the Timberwolves in the Conference Finals after they beat the Nuggets. The Dallas Mavericks roster isn’t as deep as the Celtics but there’s no doubt that Luka Doncic is the best overall player in the series.

Here’s a look at some NBA Odds to consider!

Who Has the Edge?

There weren’t many people in NBA news who expected the Mavericks to make it this far but they’ve been playing very high-level basketball in the playoffs. It’s very difficult to know which team will have the edge in the NBA Finals due to the Celtics’ lack of competition.

Boston has everything a team needs to win a championship except a legendary player. Jayson Tatum is great but at this point, it’s clear he’s not on the level of players like Luka Doncic or Nikola Jokic.

The Celtics don’t have a player who can just decide to take over the NBA Finals while the Mavericks arguably have two. Boston seems to disappoint every time they reach these big spots. If Dallas can punch them in the mouth and win Game 1, it’s hard to see how Boston can recover. This just feels like it’s Dallas’ year.
