Former MVP Derrick Rose Announces Retirement After 16 NBA Seasons
Rose Made NBA History by Becoming the Youngest Player to Win MVP After an Incredible 2010-11 Season
A Lasting Legacy

At his peak, Rose was one of the best players in the entire league. During his MVP season in 2010-11, he averaged 25.0 points per game and 7.9 assists. He became one of LeBron James’ biggest rivals in the Eastern Conference but couldn’t beat him in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, he spent much of his career injured, which is why Derrick Rose’s career stats aren’t better.
How Many Injuries Did Derrick Rose Have?
Rose may have gone down as one of the great guards in NBA history if it weren’t for injuries. Following his MVP season, he tore his ACL during the 2011-12 season which caused him to miss the entire 2012-13 season. He was never the same after that and didn’t have another season where he scored over 20 points a game.

It’s difficult to know exactly how many injuries Rose had but it’s well over 20. After his ACL tear, he only played more than 60 games in a season twice.
Is Derrick Rose A Hall of Famer?
Rose was definitely on a Hall of Fame trajectory early in his career but it’s hard to see him getting inducted now. He only averaged 17.4 points a game in his career and he never won a championship.

He’s one of the greatest “what-ifs” in sports history. He could’ve been one of the all-time greats but injuries really ruined him. He was able to reinvent himself and have some good seasons post-ACL year but he never reached close to the same heights he did when he was a younger player.
