Let me kick this article off by being upfront with you all. I believe that the Los Angeles Lakers drafting Bronny James with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft was a dark spot for the whole franchise. A skid mark if you will. A historic franchise like the Lakers should never be forced to bow to the demands of a player, no matter how great they may be. But that is precisely what has happened in LA.

LeBron James somehow talked Lakers owner Jeanie Buss into drafting his son into the NBA. His son was barely competitive as part of a mediocre USC Trojans team in the 2023-24 season. If his name was Bronny Smith, I doubt he would have even made a D1 college program.

Also, let’s not overlook the fact that he had a damn cardiac arrest issue as a teenager. While that is obviously not his fault, I would think twice about spending an NBA draft pick on a kid who has had a heart issue at age 18.

One thing that drives me mad about this whole situation is how the NBA news media goes out of its way to defend LeBron and the Lakers. Honestly, it’s pathetic. To be so afraid of a guy who plays sports for a living that you are willing to BS your readers and try to push LeBron propaganda on them.

I am not afraid of any backlash from telling it how it is. Not that I expect LeBron or Buss ever to read this article. But still, I’m here to call it how I see it.

LA drafting Bronny was wrong. It is nepotism in the dirtiest sense, and this situation will become one of the biggest embarrassments in franchise history.

Despite my ire about this whole deal, a light is at the end of the tunnel. We are, after all, sports bettors. And nothing is better for bettors than one team featuring a glaring weakness. Bronny is the Lakers’ soft spot, and I’m going to exploit the hell out of it in online betting until they send him down to the G-League.

Bronny’s Depressing Stats

Just to catch you all up, if you aren’t informed of how bad this second-generation “athlete” is, let’s break down Bronny’s stats.

At USC, Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.1 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game, shooting 36.6% from the field and 67.6% from the line. After reading this, if you believe Bronny deserves to be in the NBA, you either don’t understand how stats work or need to remove your nose from LeBron’s posterior.

If you are simple-minded and his college stats are not enough to convince you, let’s go over his numbers during the NBA preseason. As a “hater,” I knew Bronny would struggle. But even I have been blown away at how much he’s sucking.

James is averaging 1.0 point per game on 12.5% shooting. At this rate, he’s averaging more cardiac arrests per season than PPG. He’s also coughing up more turnovers than he has points.

As a result, he ranks dead last in +/- among every 494 players that have stepped on the court this preseason. Is there anything else I need to say? He’s not rebounding or getting steals, either. He has a few blocks but even more turnovers. Frankly, he should have been cut already.

Using Bronny’s Lack of Skill in NBA Betting

So, how can we use all of this to our betting benefit when making NBA picks? One report I saw last week caught my attention and made me think about how I can make some quick and easy profits on the Lakers early on in the year. The report was that Bronny and LeBron would share the court on opening night. Quick and simple.

Bronny playing in the Lakers’ first game guarantees us one thing. At some point, the Lakers will effectively be playing 4 vs 5. If you watched Bronny’s preseason games closely, you will see scoring, assisting, and rebounding aren’t his only problems. He doesn’t have the basketball IQ, defensive awareness, or hunger needed to succeed at this level. He’s a liability when on the court, and he will be on the court.

Just fading the Lakers won’t quite do it, but jumping into live NBA betting when Bronny is getting ready to suit up should allow you to turn a profit. This is for the regular season, though I’m not opposed to fading the Lakers in their final preseason games this week.

I don’t think Bronny will start the game on opening night (Oct. 22) against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are -2 favorites in NBA lines despite being the road team. As much of a slap in the face as it is to other players on the Lakers that James gets any attention, putting him in the starting lineup is asking for mutiny.

I expect Bronny to start the second half or enter in the fourth quarter with a few minutes left. My advice for NBA predictions is that when you see him get up from the sideline and take off his warmups, pound the Lakers team total under, and bet Under on any of his scoring player props.

Not only is he trash as an NBA player, but I expect opposing defenses to make sure they aren’t the ones who give up points to a repo-baby with the skills of an overconfident AAU player. And he won’t just come in for a minute or two.

No, no. LeBron would never allow that. I expect 4-6 minutes at the least for his first embarrassing jog onto the court during an NBA game. Expect to see why he’s the longest shot on the board at +20000 in NBA futures odds for the 2024-25 Rookie of the Year.
