Joel Embiid Injury Update: Is the Reigning MVP Returning?

Embiid Has Been Out With a Knee Injury for the Last Two Months

76ers Need Embiid Back ASAP!

Joel Embiid was on an absolute tear before an injury derailed his season. Prior to the injury, Joel Embiid’s stats were incredible as he was averaging 35.3 points a game. If he kept up that pace, he’d be leading the NBA in scoring.

Embiid won’t be eligible for NBA honors as he hasn’t played the 65 NBA games threshold that the league instituted this season. However, he’s not punting on the year quite yet. Embiid could return as early as Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

While his status is still up in the air for tonight’s game, it looks inevitable that he’ll be back before the playoffs, which is great NBA news.

Can 76ers Still Go on a Run?

The 76ers roster has had a tough time keeping the team afloat during Joel Embiid’s injury hiatus. The team was one of the top-four teams in the Eastern Conference before he got hurt but now they’ve dropped all the way down to the eighth seed.

As of right now, they’d have to play in the play-in tournament just to get into the playoffs. Getting Embiid back with seven games left would certainly boost their chances of getting into the playoffs. The Sixers could actually be a scary team in the playoffs.

At this rate, they’d likely be playing the Boston Celtics or Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the playoffs. That’s not a great gift for being the No. 1 or No. 2 seed. The 76ers with a healthy Embiid are still a very dangerous team.

Now, the 76ers likely don’t have a realistic shot at winning the championship this year. Too many things have gone wrong but they can play spoiler to the Celtics. Boston knocked the 76ers out of the playoffs last year and the team could want revenge. Even if they didn’t win the championship, beating the Celtics in the playoffs would be a step in the right direction.
