Los Angeles’ Big Three Hoping for Better Season
The Los Angeles Lakers begin their quest for a return to the postseason and title contention on Monday night when they play host to the Sacramento Kings in the teams’ preseason opener.
Los Angeles missed the postseason in 2021-22 despite the presence of three perennial All-Stars on its roster.
Sacramento is also looking to get back to the playoff party after making a major move at midseason last year but failing to make the postseason for the 17th straight year.
These Pacific Division foes are both trying to get off to a fast start, so expect a hard-fought game, one that you’ll want to read our in-depth preview for before you do your betting online.
Kings Hoping Moves Pay Dividends
The Sacramento Kings made some major moves during the regular season in 2021-22, trading Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton and getting Domantas Sabonis in a six-player deal at the deadline. Sabonis provides one of the better all-around players in the league as the Kings are trying to build for now rather than the future.
Sabonis averaged 18.9 points, 12.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists as a power forward and was a threat to get a triple-double nightly. He’ll be a key for the Kings going forward and should be even better after having time to get used to his new team.
Guard De’Aaron Fox is the key for Sacramento’s hopes of betting the division odds in the Pacific and becoming a contender. The 24-year-old averaged 23.2 points and 5.6 assists in 59 games in 2021-22, and his continued development as a leader will only make Sacramento more dangerous.
New head coach Mike Brown has had success at previous stops, though he lasted one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers in his last stint with the team in 2013-14. He’s been an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors since 2016 but is ready for his next crack at a head coaching gig.
Lakers Focused On Making Things Work
Much of the talk about the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2022 offseason was how the team needed to move on from guard Russell Westbrook, who was a disappointment in his first season with the team in 2021-22. But the Lakers stuck with the former All-Star, still believing that he can team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis to make Los Angeles a title contender.
The three are trying to work on their chemistry, becoming more aggressive as individuals rather than worrying about stepping on each other’s toes.
“I think the biggest thing was everybody trying to be selfless and now everybody is being aggressive,” Davis said about the trio’s new attitude. “‘Russ, you get it, go.’ ‘Bron, you get it, go.’ I get it and go. Whoever. And that’s been very helpful for all of us.”
James continues to defy Father Time, averaging 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists at age 37 last season. He continues to be the No. 1 for the Lakers, and as long as he’s healthy, Los Angeles will be a good bet in online gambling.
Davis’ health is always a question, though the team is confident he’ll be 100% for the season. All three of the superstar trio should get plenty of time in the preseason opener to try to build some confidence going forward.
Kings vs Lakers Prediction
The Los Angeles Lakers want to reclaim their spot among the top title contenders, and part of that is going to be getting going early. Los Angeles will get a challenge from the Sacramento Kings, who are going to be better this season, but we like the Lakers to come away with the victory.
