Lakers vs Clippers NBA Free Pick, July 30

Los Angeles Lakers Lineup

Lakers Without Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are probably the most talented duo in the entire league right now and they look to resume their dominance on July 30th. Together they’ve averaged 52.4 points, 17.3 rebounds, 13.7 assists, and almost three blocks per game thus far this season. Quite a one-two punch! See our NBA betting odds for when the action kicks off in Orlando.

Rajon Rondo underwent surgery on a fractured right thumb on July 15th and is out for another 4-6 weeks yet. If all goes well, Rondo will return in time for the Western Conference Finals. Avery Bradley has opted out of playing basketball at the “Orlando Bubble”, so bench players like Alex Caruso and Quinn Cook will be forced to play key minutes heading into the Playoffs.

Caruso is clearly dedicated to his job. He even skipped his sister Megan’s wedding in Austin, Texas on July 18th to remain with his teammates in the bubble. Caruso had the blessing of the Lakers organization to attend the event, but he was quoted as saying that the team has “worked too hard” for him to leave at this crucial time.

Los Angeles Clippers Lineup

Clippers Severely Short-Handed For NBA Restart

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are nothing to sneeze at, averaging a total of 47.9 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 8.9 assists as a pair so far in 2019-2020. We all know what Leonard is capable of, but George will need to step it up a bit if the Clippers expect to make a serious run at the NBA title this season. Coach Doc Rivers is hoping his squad can pull together down the stretch despite being short-handed.

Starting guard Patrick Beverley left the bubble on July 21st to tend to a personal matter. He is back with the team now, but his availability for this game is in question. There was a similar departure from Orlando by backup center Montrezl Harrell, who will miss the game tomorrow at the very least.

It’s not certain when or if starting center Ivica Zubac will be available to play after testing positive for COVID-19, which translates to more playing time for veteran Joakim Noah. Zubac has returned to the bubble and is practicing with the team, however.

The reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams, decided to play but the 16-year vet made a rookie mistake by visiting a strip club to “pick up wigs.” He is now on a 10-day quarantine and will miss the first two seeding games.

Meanwhile, role-player Landry Shamet tested positive for COVID-19 in early July and only arrived in the bubble over the weekend, but he is on track to play in tomorrow’s game.

Lakers vs Clippers Head-to-Head This Season

In their most recent matchup, the Clippers lost a tough one at home in the Staples Center on March 8th. They led by four points at the half, but the Lakers turned it on in the third quarter and closed out the relatively low-scoring contest with a 112-103 victory.

Lebron James (28 points) and Anthony Davis (30 points) took care of business for the Lakers, but Avery Bradley also scored 24 points. On the Clippers side, Kawhi Leonard (27 points) and Paul George (31 points) lit up the scoreboard, but Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell combined for 27 points off the bench. A total of 215 points were scored in the game.

The other two contests were both Clippers victories. A home win on October 22nd by the score of 112-102 and a road victory on Christmas Day by the score of 111-106. However, the all-time series is lopsided with the Lakers ahead 149 wins to 74 for the Clippers.

Lakers vs Clippers Over/Under Pick

It’s important to mention that the Lakers are ranked 1st in points allowed this season so far. The Clippers are no slouch either, coming in 11th in that category. The matchup already smells like a low scoring affair, just based on these defensive rankings.

None of their three matchups this season went above a total score of 217 points. That was before taking a four-month hiatus and before each team lost key contributors to their offense.

Players and coaches will be shaking off the rust, playing in a strange environment with no fans to cheer them on, and the quality of overall play will undoubtedly be lower coming out of the gates.

So will the scores.
