Tuesday Night NBA Preview

Both a Hodgepodge and a Smorgasbord in Nine Games

NBA Tuesday night finds nine games, more than double of Monday’s. There is a hodgepodge of different games per the NBA betting lines, but they figure relatively competitive, with just one double-digit favorite.

Charlotte Hornets at Toronto Raptors

  • Time: 7 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: Toronto -2½
  • Moneyline: Charlotte +120, Toronto -140
  • Total: 222

The high-flying Hornets visit the Raptors, a team they have generally done well against. The Hornets have covered their last five games against Toronto, despite only winning two of them. A bet online on the underdogs may be warranted here.

Denver Nuggets at Detroit Pistons

  • Time: 7 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: Denver -7½
  • Moneyline: Denver -290, Detroit +240
  • Total: 217

A “trap game” for the Nuggets? They have beaten the Pistons four straight times, but are only 2-2 in their last four trips to the Little Caesars Arena. Detroit has gone 6-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last ten games, 4-1 ATS at home in their last five.

Los Angeles Clippers at Washington Wizards

  • Time: 7 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: Washington -5
  • Moneyline: LA Clippers +170, Washington -200
  • Total: 219½

Washington looks to snap a three-game skid as they host the starless Clippers. LA is just 2-4 in its last six. The Wizards are 1-9 ATS in their last ten games, including 1-7 ATS at home. Is fading Washington the right play on the sportsbook?

New Orleans Pelicans at Philadelphia 76ers

  • Time: 7 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: Philadelphia -11
  • Moneyline: New Orleans +450, Philadelphia -600
  • Total: 212½

Coming from a hard-fought win against the Pacers, the New Orleans Pelicans find themselves as biggest ‘dogs of the evening. The Pels are just 1-6 on the second night of a back-to-back, while the 76ers have won six of their last seven home games against them. This line became inflated after four-fifths of New Orleans’ regular starting lineup was ruled out.

Los Angeles Lakers at Brooklyn Nets

  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: LA Lakers -3
  • Moneyline: LA Lakers -150, Brooklyn +130
  • Total: 226

The Nets are conspicuous underdogs at home against the pedestrian Lakers, perhaps not that conspicuous considering Brooklyn is a league-worst 5-17-1 at home against the spread. Since Kevin Durant has been sidelined, Brooklyn has gone 2-2 on both the money line and spread. The Lakers, meanwhile, are only 2-5 ATS in their last seven games although Russell Westbrook is showing signs of life.

Sacramento Kings at Boston Celtics

  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: Boston -8½
  • Moneyline: Sacramento +310, Boston -370
  • Total: 220

The Celtics are one of the bigger favorites this evening, but this middling team has only covered one of its last five spreads when favored by seven or more points. Fortunately-at least for Boston-the terrible Kings have lost eight straight road games.

San Antonio Spurs at Houston Rockets

  • Time: 8 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: San Antonio -5
  • Moneyline: San Antonio -200, Houston +170
  • Total: 234

With not much to play for, this get-together between once-proud Southwest franchises is treacherous. Instead, we’re more apt to see a high-scoring game, as suggested by the total. However, the Spurs’ last five visits to Houston been ‘under’ games.

Dallas Mavericks at Golden State Warriors

  • Time: 10 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: Golden State -3½
  • Moneyline: Dallas +145, Golden State -16=5
  • Total: 210½

Opposite of the other Texas teams, the Mavericks may yield another low-scoring game as they face the Golden State Warriors. Dallas held Golden State to its lowest score (82 points) of the season the last time they met. The ‘under’ has hit in their last eight games.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Portland Trail Blazers

  • Time: 10 p.m. ET
  • Point Spread: Minnesota -3
  • Moneyline: Minnesota -150, Portland +130
  • Total: 233

In what should be an offense-driven game, the Timberwolves visit the Trail Blazers as road favorites. Seventeen of Minnesota’s 23 away games have gone over, including seven of their last eight. They’re two of the worst defensive teams in the NBA, the Wolves allowed 110 ppg, while Portland surrenders 112 ppg.
